To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
These books are great, I’ve used them for both my children while learning to read and highly recommend them. HOWEVER... this particular set (I’ve bought many throughout the years) came in miniature size. I didn’t even know that was an option or I would’ve looked at the measurements. Kind of annoying when you have littles used to a normal size book and then have to hold onto these tiny books. The seller need a banana for scale in the pics if they’re going to be pulling that. Just a FYI.
They are a nice supplement to the 1-5 set. However with them being for the first grade level, they are very short. The advertisement says they are 12 pages long, but there’s only 9 pages of story (they start on page 3 and page 12 says ‘the end’).
I have all the sets of Bob Books (except the pre-readers), and these are fantastic, just like all the other sets. Even the included flashcards are great. The reason I don't give it 5 stars, though, is because a lot of the words that are listed as "sight words" in these books were actually taught to my first grader in phonics lessons, not as sight words. So the words in the books may not match up to your first grade sight word list. But they are great for reinforcing everything he's learning. They'd also be great for homeschooling, since you could include all these words as sight words. Highly recommended for homeschool or regular school. Way better than the Scholastic Sight Word Readers set: more sight words in each story, better stories.
These are great short stories. My son is an advanced Kindergardener when it comes to reading and to earn time playing games he reads one or two of these books. Each time he reads he gets 15 min of game time. There are not too many words on each page so it keeps them interested with new pictures regularly and they feel like they are progressing.
My beginner reader can now read the simple sentences including the chosen "sight word" on each page. The illustration are also simple and in black and white. Finally I found a book which our reluctant reader was willing to try out. Prompt delivery.
