I haven’t read the book. However it’s hard to get past the fact that I purchased this thinking it was new and turns out it’s used. Super disappointing. Someone wrote their name in it and then used white out to cover it.

1.0 out of 5 stars This guy is a complete tool

If you've ever watched the show "The Office", you might be able to compare Keith Ferrazzi to the characters Dwight Schrute or Andy Bernard. Nobody likes the networking jerk who pretends to share interests with you and is only interested in getting your business card. Keith is self-serving and manipulative, only initiating relationships if he sees prospective gain for himself out of it. I cannot believe this guy has the audacity to publish a book in plain sight of his colleagues on how he used them to his advantage. If I was his colleague, I would feel used and livid.

Of course, some managers/executives like the networking jerk personality especially in the sales profession. However, most business men and women I know would immediately be turned off by somebody like Keith. I would as well. I don't believe in using people and I don't believe in "elevator pitches". If some kid came up to me and started spewing a rehearsed "Hi my name is..." speech I would think it's pathetic and fake. People need to be sincere when trying to establish relationships. There's no use in trying to be a chameleon... morphing to mirror different personalities in hopes of getting a "relationship" with that person.

You might be able to get some helpful material on putting yourself "out there" in the first chapter but after that it is just "how to be a network jerk" jargon.

This book might be good if you are in sales, but in any other function of business... finance, supply chain management, etc... it's just crap. If I were to profile Keith in two words it would be "networking whore". He's no different than that Facebook user who literally has thousands of friends.

As one of those poor beleaguered folks who falls into Mr Ferrazzi’s “connector” category, I see all the techniques and tricks promulgated by this author on an almost daily basis. In fact, my motive for reading was to try and gain some insight into why the sort of crass behaviour recommended in this book is so common in today’s business climate. This author tells us that his father talked him into a smart prep school and got him a job caddying at the local country club. He then attended both Harvard and Yale and so started out with one of the best alumni networks in the world. After a short (and unremarkable) career in Marketing, he had an even shorter spell as the CEO of YAYA (never heard of it, can’t find it) and then turned to writing/promoting himself 24/7. Read if you must.

1.0 out of 5 stars Highly optimistic non practical advice

The author just goes on and on about how ro build meaningful connections with no practical advice and slamming the people building shallow relationships.

In one chapter, the author says vulnerability is a virtue and describes how expressing his vulnerability to a complete stranger once helped him build a deeper connection. However, one must be careful with whom he chooses to be vulnerable. Maybe you want a deeper connection but if the other person only wants to take advantage of you then all of this wont really help.

Dont follow the advice blindly. People will take advantage of you easily.

No amount of your effort will make up for a lack of theirs.

badly written book of endless self-praise and name dropping it read like a self congratulation on all of the author's great accomplishments and great people he knows. he says anybody can get on his same path, that of course started with him getting private school education since elementary school. not helpful in the real world and also just a long list of storys out of keith ferazzi's life and self-congratulating. it was tiring i couldn't even get myself to finish the book.

Most of the text is devoted to tips about how to make yourself as visible as possible to someone more visible than yourself, which ultimately reads as blatently self-promoting and swarmy; a pitiably shallow alternative to the exploration of qualities like service, ingetrity, and energy. There is much more substantial business advice out there on leadership and confidence that truely is the backbone of American commerce and strength. Look into "The Secrets of Effective Leadership, A Practical Guide To Success" by F.A. Manske, Jr. or any of Dale Carnagie's classics for a solid meal.

Oh I just cannot even........Seriously, you went to Yale and Harvard!!!! How can you possibly write such a terrible book? The entire book is talking about his BORING personal life without giving any meaningful advice. And more pathetically, when someone he had met in his life didn’t do him a favor, he will start badmouthing him/her or saying how poorly they are doing. Hard to believe someone with such a small heart actually became successful.

1.0 out of 5 stars The longest piece of self promotion ever written
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on November 27, 2018

The author mostly speaks about his 'great' life and generously name drops to show his connections. The useful bits are rare and to find them is a tedious process, akin to searching for a needle in a haystack. Basically the author comes across as a person intent on promoting himself than helping the author. I am sure there must be better books on networking than this because if this is a good book on networking, then god save us all.
