When this book was advertised there was no mention that the author is extremely involved with God. The theme ran through all the stories so we did not feel it was appropriate to give it to our grand daugther.
There are only a few paragraphs per section about horses. What this really is is a religious book. Which is fine and dandy - but that’s what it should be titled. We also don’t like the “just between you and me” sections that encourages secrets. Just Eww.
Dislikes... Almost every single entry in this book ends with...go into the internet and search (horse breeds, horse names, horse pools etc...). There is no disclaimer for kids to "ask your parents about going on the internet or anything like that. Anywhere in the book. It just launches you full force into the "internet" looking for horsey info. It doesn't take much searching for that to become a dangerous place... - also the just between you and me stuff... No thanks. Likes... I like how to story runs throughout the short devotionals.
I love this book. I won my first copy in a contest, and have gone on to buy others as gifts. The situations can apply to adults as well, the message is the same, the situation just may be more complex. The book is also perfect for horse crazy grandsons and a grand daughter not yet old enough to be horse crazy. As in not speaking yet. The stores are great to read to her. This book is another great one from Rebecca Ondov, I always anxiously await her next one. Beautifully done, G-d uses her gift to bless us and his gifts to us, our horses.
I was looking for a really good book for a 10 year old girl who loves horses. Looking for something that she would love to read about the relationship between a girl and her horse. This had too much religion for this girl.
