5.0 out of 5 starsProper terminology, talks about ART and non-traditional families as well
Reviewed in Canada on March 21, 2017
Excellent book! Very basic straightforward language. It would answer the question my five year old would ask about a concept further down the page as we were reading.

This book uses proper terminology and has illustrations of all body parts (my five year old thought the drawing of the child looking at his bum cheeks in the mirror was a hoot!) It covers everything and anything you can think of - family types, relationships with friends, how babies are made including at home and in the lab, circumcision... Just the facts, leaving you to fill in the rest.

I only have one beef with the book: the girl's body illustration. Her feet are turned inward suggesting some shyness, whereas the boy does not. Otherwise I love this book. We read through it once and now I leave it in his bookshelf. It's better than him looking this stuff up on the internet!

This review is copied and pasted from a reviewer (Kay Kay). I read her review and bought this book immediately. I am sharing it on the Canadian Amazon reviews that way it comes up faster for Canadian parents like myself.

“As a conservative Christian and sexual abuse prevention educator, I have to share my thoughts about the negative comments. The number one thing sexual predators look for in their victims is a lack of knowledge about sex. They also look for families who don't educate their kids about basic anatomy and shame their children for discovering that their genital can bring pleasure. Not recognizing and teaching what an incredible gift from God our bodies are, is exactly what the enemy leverages against our kids and us. If you don't agree with EVERYTHING in the book .. great! Talk about it with your kids, "we believe this______ because_______. " It's a wonderful way to open communication about your beliefs and let the kids know that you're willing to talk about anything. I'm leaving this review in the 1-star section because people read the one start reviews more. I recommend this book and bring it to all my live speaking events. Yes, I speak at conservative Christian churches.”
Absolutely brilliant and well put.
I also highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for parents and kids

Oh wow, this book is fun to read with a 5 year old. There's one illustration of a kid bending over and looking at their butt in the mirror - HILARIOUS.
But seriously, this is a fantastic guide and tool for parents. It was awkward to read at first, but that was quickly overcome by the informative yet entertaining writing style.
Since my kid is 5, we do have a conversation before we read the book about how not all her friends will know this stuff. So it's best to keep it to herself for now unless they bring it up. And as always, we make sure she knows if someone at school says something she doesnt think sounds right - we are here to talk.
My only criticism is that there is nothing about transgenderism/transexuality. There are many kinds of families included LGB-wise... but it's missing the T.

5.0 out of 5 stars great

This book is very informative and names things on their proper name, but it's fitting to the level of a 6 yrs old kid. It's interesting, has comic book style pages, and very age appropriate, I believe. My son wanted to know where babies come from and I found this book has the perfect voice to tell him so. It's so much easier to explain things this way then trying to mumble it with your own awkward words. It did bond us too, since he found the whole sex thing quite ridiculous and very hilarious, so we laughed together many times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Age appropriate resource - great pages on body safety

This is a wonderful book. My son is 6 and I appreciated the easy pages on body safety and pregnancy. We did skip over the reproduction page this year but plan on reading it fully next year. I keep the book on his book shelf so if he wants to know something without me around, I feel confident knowing this is an age appropriate resource. I really think it deserves a spot in every child’s bookcase! Particularly now, where we know kids are going to get this information somewhere! Better it be here than from misinformed kids or hyper sexualalized tv or internet...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to introduce kids to human reproduction.

Amazing book for young kids to learn about the reproductive system, fetal development and birth. I like how the book not only uses correct terminology but talks about ok and not ok touches. It teaches kids about their bodies, it encourages open communication and answers questions on where do babies come from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for kids of all ages

Fantastic book for kids of all ages. We bought for our 5 year old and his newfound curiosity about his own body. The verbiage and illustrations are age appropriate, and fact based. It is something he can understand at 5, and re-read as many times as he likes into his pre-teen/ teen years if he wants to (i.e. it won't be too "babyish"). I would highly recommend this book to any parent and/or teacher (and actually have, already!)

The only thing this is missing is alternative means of reproduction (e.g. artificial insemination, donor eggs, in vitro, c-section, etc). Aside from that... this was the PERFECT book for my son, who will soon be a big brother and is obsessed with babies.

My children love this book. My son.calls it the donor book because we get to talk about my wish to have them and their reason for being here and also they get to know about their bio dad although the person is just a donor. They feel special to have this person because like my son says “he gave mama a special gift”

5.0 out of 5 stars a must in your kiddos library.

My 4 yr old loooves it. A lot of images and writing. Some parts I will save for when she's a little older, but over all its a great large book. She can sit by herself and look at the pictures too. This answered a lot of her questions /confusion about boys and girls and even answered questions she didn't even know she had yet lol. I definitely recommend!
