This book is a fantastic way to open dialogue with your child about puberty, sex and bodies. My 9 year old daughter and I read the chapters together and I explain everything she asks about. It feels great to know she can learn from her mom instead of some kids at school or online. I wish there was more in the book about boundaries and consent, as well as information about all genders, not just two.

NOT for 10 yr olds...

I read a few other reviews commenting on the inappropriate illustrations but because I didn't have pictures to gauge for myself whether I was ok with them or not, I thought I would give this book a try anyways. There is no way I will be showing it to my child. Why does a 10 year old need to see an illustration of a woman riding a man? Why do they need to see an illustration of people masturbating? Is a description not enough? This book was not done with class. It reflects a style of sleazy locker room talk. They age recommendation should be increased. Its way too inappropriate for a 10 year old. Theres a chapter on abortion too. Do they really need to know about that at 10?

I would NOT recommend this book as an introduction to sex ed for a child. That is what I was looking for. This clearly is not it. I Will be returning it.

Bought as it is highly recommended. Not impressed with the illustrations on every page, they are really unecessary given the reading level and subject matter. Covers great info, but the cartoons might be disturbing to some. I'd suggest checking it out in person before ordering online to decide if it is appropriate for your child.

Very comprehensive coverage, sensitively written. But cartoons are on every friggin page. Seriously, a lot of bush, boobs, twig and berries; granted, in all shapes and sizes (very inclusive). Not shocking, just exhausting. Takes the taboo out of the conversation but also removes all mystery and joy of discovery (isn't that some of the beauty of puberty?) Nope, I'm not a fuddy-duddy, worked with teens for 20 years.

This book is great for a starting point. I would love if instead of uncircumcised it was fixed to say intact .

This book has great information for your tweens and teens. I think as a parent, it was overwhelming to have my child read it, but he needed it.
I was so grateful that the images are animation and not real life. I think that would have been too much.

I do recommend this book for parents who need to share this information with their child but don't know how to do it.

This book came highly recommended by a child psychologist.

We got this book for our 12 year old daughter because she was asking lots of questions and she loved it. Our 10 year old son also really likes it. It covers everything they need to know at this age and maybe a little more but it does it in a way that's easy for them to understand

I wish I had waited for the updated version. This one is very hetero normative and has little if any content on transgender.
My 11 year old is not very interested in it. We liked the books for younger kids a lot more. Perhaps the illustrations, which look kind of babyish, are a turn off for him.

The illustrations were a bit too much. It's informative, alright. But not sure if an 11-year old needs to learn about masturbation, abortion if they haven't even grasped the idea of the biology of things and sexual relations. I guess it would be ok if your child regardless of age is mature enough that you would be ok to go over these topics with him/her.
I guess I will try the 7-10 option. Fingers crossed it is appropriate.
