Mr. Terry has wonderfully illustrated a great book. The illustrations carry the nicely written text. Children will fall in love with the colorful exciting book, and it will become a nighttime classic, overnight! Kudos to Mr. Will Terry.
Billy Armadilly is making chili to warm everybody up, but her friends are too busy to help. She is determined not to share her chili with them since they didn't help, but it just isn't the same without them. When her friends show up with food to go with the chili and an apology for not helping they all enjoy a great meal together. This book has beautiful illustrations. It teaches about friendship with a different twist on the old story of The Little Red Hen. I bought this book used and it was in great condition.
It's a cute book about Miss Billie making Armadilly Chili. I was hoping it was going to rhyme more since that's what I assumed while reading the title. (I'm trying to read as much rhyming as possible for my students._ But it doesn't. It does mention a toad (which looks like a lizard), and a tarantula (even though the monarch butterfly is Texas' official state insect). My students (Pre-K) didn't really like this book too much and we decided to make our own story about an armadillo who's friends were the Mocking Bird, Monarch Butterfly, a Longhorn, and a bat.
I read this to my classroom of 3,4,& 5 year olds as part of our Texas/Rodeo Theme. They loved the story (I read it with what I hope was a southern accent). We were able to predict what would happen next, compare it to "The Little Red Hen", and talk about why the "friends" in the story weren't getting any chili - ("they didn't help her"!). We were also able to discuss how food tastes better when we have friends to share with. A great story! So happy I purchased it and it arrived very quickly & in great shape!
This is one of my favorite children's books. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is adorable. My students love hearing this story and notice the similarities between this book and The Little Red Hen. I highly recommend this book!
I am building a library for my grand-daughter and love stories with a moral. I also love great artwork and Will Terry has done it again with his vivid pictures. Each animal in the story really captures the western influence! Hope I can add some more of the books he's worked on too!
