This book outlines all the possible rail trails in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. It would be good to note that if you are a bicycler who needs asphalt trails these three states have very few. Asphalt trails seem to be located in the centers of towns. The longer milage trails are generally a combination of dirt and gravel. That's because these states are big on snowmobiling so the trails are used for that in the winter, no chance of paving them over. The ratings in the book seem to be accurate 1 for smooth 2-3 for increased roughness. I've been on few of the trails before I got the book and the descriptions match with my experience. I think the book is great and I plan on using it this winter too to snowmobile as well as a few of the smoother ones in the summer to bike.

Nice idea but descriptions were either vague or inaccurate. For example, I rode the Warren trail and it became entirely unpassable with a bicycle about halfway through. Additionally, the presidential trail started great but became bogged down by large rocks and poor maintenance. Perhaps the author should actually ride the trails on a bicycle.
