I purchased this book when I decided to launch my own consulting business last year. Alan Weiss provides incredible, yet practical advice to budding solopreneur consultants like me.
Following his instructions, I was able to scale my startup to a six-figure business in 6 months. I would recommend this book to anyone planning to walk the talk as a solo consultant, and see their business grow steadily but surely as long as they are committed to what the author asks us to do.
I've read many of Weiss' books and I loved that he keeps it fresh with updated books. He even mentions it in the book, that his consulting changes about every 3 years. This book is timely for the Covid environment and how you can consult clients based on the challenges that business face today. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that coaches professionals or coaches businesses.
I am someone who has years of experience in the markets, technology product management , Fintech, strategic planning, tactical execution, etc. I was exploring the idea of doing some consulting given my plethora of experience. While the book contains a lot of good information, the author (who is a very successful consultant I admit), seems to advocate the most difficult path to enter the business. Maybe the book is designed to show the way to becoming a consultant earning tens of millions of dollars a year. But for those of us who do not have that lofty goal in mind, the path he lays out seems to be the most difficult possible road to enter the field. I’m not interested in creating the next McKinsey. I simply wanted to do some consulting to provide additional income as I near retirement. Although I know this is possible, this book has discouraged me from that goal. I will continue searching for other material and authors that provide insight into that goal of mine.
Alan Weiss' expertise and experience is so well laid out in this book. He backs up any contrarian statement with compelling evidence and/or relevant examples that clearly illustrate his point. As a bonus, he has embedded significant leadership coaching as he guides consultants on how to become trusted advisors to the client leaders who hire them.
Whenever you see the description for anything that reads: "everything you need to know," most of the time you gloss over it knowing it never gets delivered. Except Alan always delivers and this new addition of "The Consulting Bible" is no exception.
Over the years, Alan Weiss has helped countless consultants build successful practices. Unlike other authors who rest on their laurels, Alan constantly revises his books to incorporate his latest thinking. This new version of The Consulting Bible will help you succeed faster.
This was the first book I have read on consulting and found the author's approach and advice of great value. The author tells you what you should do - but even more importantly, why you should take his advice. Highly recommend it for anyone who is involved in consulting or considering a career transition.
