It was a bit of a slow start to be honest, but it picked up more in chapter 3 or 4 and after that...well lets just say I'm going to be very tired at work tomorrow

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
Reviewed in Canada 🇹🇩 on August 30, 2021
My emotions were up & down when I was reading this book. The emotions were all good but I felt for most of these characters.

I have to say I wasn't a fan of Scootie before her "came to Jesus" moments -she seems so focused on her trobles and emotion she disregarded anyone else. The one thing that bothered me is that she kinda had a hand in Irene coming out to the school and that should be something the individual is completely ready for.

I liked Irene she seemed genuinely an honest and sweet person. she was hurt and was trying to protect herself

anyhow I loved the drama and the journey both these girls went through - they both grew so much with this lie they created.

A classic enemy to lover/fake dating troop. I could see this as a movie that I would watch.

I am happy that it all worked out and I enjoyed reading this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Swift and sweet

A swift, sweet read with a lot of favourite reader tropes: fake dating, enemies to lovers, popular girl sells her social currency to the unpopular girl, a past misunderstanding that leads to unfortunate assumptions, an underdog sports team desperate for a win. I really enjoyed the discourse around grand gestures and how sometimes a hard conversation is more important than a boombox in the rain. I also really liked the love interest and hope that if a book 2 is in the works, the girls swap POVs!

4.0 out of 5 stars Would make a great movie!
Reviewed in Canada 🇹🇩 on June 6, 2021
This book is a delightful read. I finished it in one sitting. The font size was big enough and comfortable to read so I was able to get through this book pretty quickly!

She Drives Me Crazy is about Scottie, high school basketball player, who has recently broken up with her ex girlfriend, Tally. She is not over Tally, not by a long shot. When Scottie accidentally hits head cheerleader (and school queen bee) Irene's car in the parking lot, they are forced to carpool for a little while where they found out they might have a lot more in common than they think, and cook up a fake dating scheme to make ex girlfriend Tally jealous.

This book was sweet, it was a little spicy, it was soft and lovely... It was so many things. I loved that throughout the book the scheme became unsettling to both of them for a myriad of reasons, and that instead of assuming the worst, they talked about it.

So much communication. It was beautiful.

Discussion of grief in relationships. Discussion of being a whole person before you enter a relationship because your partner isn't going to complete you. Discussion of loving yourself.

(Scottie needs therapy, but really who doesn't)

This was a nice, sweet book that would make a great movie, if I'm being honest.

C'monnnnnnnn Netflix.

:D

Four stars.

I absolutely loved this story. The characters were diverse. The story was cute and funny. Can we give it up for the supportive and loving family and friends!! This is a prime example of what love looks like. All parents of you need an example this is the book for you.

My first queer/lesbian book I’ve read and i can’t wait to read more. Our community deserves to be heard and loved. This book reminds me of “Love Font Cost A Thing” & some other movie but can’t think of it right now. The universe/God is funny at how things and/or people are moved towards each other.

Scotty’s best friend, Danielle, & Irene were dropping some knowledge on Scotty. Those are the kind of people we all should want in our lives. Of course a lot of us have been there with an ex and we can’t seem to shake them. We all have to learn how to put us first so the right person or people can be placed on our lives to appreciate. Go ahead and grieve that lost of a relationship but don’t let it drown you. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Never know what can happen.

Lastly, Scotty and Irene are very mature because honey charlotte wouldn’t have kept trying me like that. I would of dragged her to hell lol. Sometimes being the bigger person and letting people think whatever they won’t is a win in your book. May be hard but both parties don’t have to look crazy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This isn't my normal genre to read, but I'm glad I did read it
Reviewed in the United States đŸ‡ș🇾 on October 4, 2022

I'm a firm believer in the Mark Twain quote: "Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." And while I'm too broke to travel, I live this idea by occasionally reading books in a genre/point of view I don't normally gravitate towards. This book was one such purchase after stumbling upon it in a local bookstore, I later bought it on Amazon so I could judge it's worthiness before recommending it to my wife. I don't like to reread books in a short amount of time, usually I'll give the reread a few months to a year before I consider picking it up again. I finished this book a day before this review and by God I've barely resisted the urge to reread it again the day I write this review.

I like the characters, I like the plot and I like the multiple not too subtle, but not too preachy messages this book conveys. It is going onto my list of best books I've ever read, which includes such classics as: All Quiet on the Western Front, The Dresden files series, The Eternal champion trilogy, Vampire Hunter D, The Great Gatsby, World War Z, Anne of Green Gables, Wizard's First Rule, The Golden Compass, The Corpus Hermeticum, The Han Solo Trilogy, At the Mountains of Madness, Our Man in Havana, Monsters you've Never Heard of, Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized Parody, The Hobbit, Annie on My Mind, Dave Barry does Japan, Shulz and Peanuts, and my all time favorite Belinda.

My only complaint is that the book isn't longer and that the odds of a sequel are slim to none. Also, Spoilers Ahead; seriously Spoilers Ahead: It's set up that the main two characters have had intimate relations before they met, so why don't we get a scene like that involving these two? I wasn't looking for full blown NC-17 but something sensual without being explicit. The kind of thing that raises the eyebrows and causes the imagination to wander just enough that your motor gets running.

If your on the fence about whether or not to read it because either it's a topic you find stale or a topic you don't normally have interest in; take it from this libertarian, gun loving, small government believing doesn't care about gays except for a select few friends, only votes for the right because the left wants to turn all Americans into Shoggoths, long haired, hard rock fan that also loves Celine Dion, foul mouthed alcoholic: if you like a good novel regardless of what your personal beliefs may be, buy this book. You can thank me later with a bottle of Jim Beam Devil's Cut. I'm glad I travelled out of my little corner of the world and I have no regrets that I read this book. It will forever have a place of honor on my hall of fame shelf on my bookcase. My hat, if I wore one, goes off to the author. She wrote a damn fine book.
