Adiga has the Indian caste system by the tail!
Reviewed in Canada on July 10, 2014
Autho Adiga has the Indian caste system by the tail in this enlightening & very well executed delivery. Strips it to the core, layer by layer, as to what's really going on in the minds of the subservient underdogs towards their 'masters'. Added to the mix is the son of the Big Dog who has come back from yrs in the USA, who is caught between two cultures, but ultimately falls in tow w his corrupt family, who are forced into paying bribes to avoid taxes. But puts trust in a young man doomed to a caste of 'sugar makers' to be his driver, a huge step up for the boy, & opens his eyes & ears to a world he'll never be in beyond that of a servant. But he also has obligations to those he left in his own miserable caste. It's an intricate story about power through hierarchy based on birth -luck of the draw, vs doomed misery. Does one have a choice, & how may it be obtained? What constitutes right or wrong in such a society? Excellent book!
