I LOVE this idea, and the last few pages of the book are GREAT. The first half though is just saying "this is for this gender!" And then only "until it's not" as an explanation a few pages later. To me, it feels like there's too much focus on what's for girls and boys traditionally and it could have easily list a full two pages or so of that. But I do love the end, the illustrations and the overall idea.
Great book about how kids don’t have to be bound by gender stereotypes! This has been helpful to counteract the messages my kid has been getting from schoolmates and certain family members about what he’s “allowed” to like or play with. Also the rhymes and illustrations make it fun to read, and he actually asks for this book!
Purchased this book and loved the meaning behind it. Great lesson to teach at an early age. Every girl doesn’t play with dolls and every boy isn’t an athlete...and that’s perfectly ok!!!! I will be purchasing another book in September to give to the school for the school library.
I absolutely love this book. It has wonderful pictures, that are colorful and engaging. It also has a great message about being who you are no matter what you like. I plan to read it to my kids, as well as my students
Such a beautiful book and written in a way that kids can understand! I’ve been reading it to my 2 year old and he loves it because they talk about things that he loves to do that are deemed “girly” and it’s nice to see (for me because he doesn’t yet understand societal norms) the distruction of these stereotypes.
I bought this to donate to our local public library in honor of my little guy's first birthday! It's such a sweet book! We have read it many times now and will be among our top books to read to him as he grows.
