I should have read the description more carefully before buying it. I love that it has attractive, bright colors and illustration but the fact that this book is not hardboard left me no choice but to keep it in the shelf, waiting for my baby growing up to read it. My baby is 9 months old, who loves to tear and chew the book so this book is not suitable for young baby.
I love Eric Carle's books - especially the original Very Hungry Caterpillar. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is simple and sweet. However, it is quite a small book. It is not the typical size of children's books. This wasn't a problem though as I bought this in anticipation of Father's Day - am going to write in the cover of the book and use it as a Father's Day Card-book. But if you are wanting to buy it to read with your children, a larger sized book would be better.
I bought this to read with baby but she's not that responsive to it like she is with Spot or Mog. She doesn't seem too interested in the caterpillar yet! The drawings are a little weird as well, the gorilla might even look a bit scary. It's a cute concept but it's not our favourite. Maybe she'll appreciate it more after we've had a good run with the original Hungry Caterpillar and she recognises him. It's a nice one to add to the collection though.
The illustrations are great! Colorful watercolor animals like parrots, seahorses & polar bears. Great to review animals and colors with your babe. But the writing is pretty plain and simple. No plot or rhyming. Not my fav book, and there are DEFINITELY better Father's Day books to get for papa, that pull at your heart strings or are more meaningful. I give it a solid "OK". Gave it a 4 instead of a 3 because the pictures are so nice of the animals =)
