Has many good criteria parts for gaming fantasy genre. It makes sense later in book but some things were too puzzling for someone unfamiliar to this world. Lack of clarity. Too many names and confusing society did not mesh. The focus of escaping poverty and little security makes sense at first. Then left more a cliffhanger continuation than complete book of 600 pages. Lots of profanity used. Makes sense in certain situations but almost all the time makes it discouraging to read more. Had more potential and is sad to see it wasted.
2.0 out of 5 starsNot really my cup of tea | fans of Marie Brennan will love this

I skimmed through this because I love Orbit and I like almost everything of theirs I read. I didn't realize that Marie Brennan was one of the authors behind this penname when I picked up the title or I might not have gotten it, since her style is somewhat dry and flowery and very much done in the pre-1990s style of high fantasy, which isn't really my thing. The premise sounded great though and I did try to read it without knowing who it was written by first and I skimmed to about page 200 or so and just couldn't enjoy it. Fans of Marie Brennan will love this.
