This book started off great and then became disappointing. There was a cool, unique plot that became burdened with stereotypical reactions and cliches. As intriguing as the second book sounds, I will not be buying it.

They both are very stubborn and are quite perfect for each other as they continuously overlook what right in front of their hearts while juggling everything that life is throwing at them which has some pretty heavy emotional turmoil flowing from the pages as well.

The plot is fast paced, extremely engaging and suspenseful, guaranteeing that readers can’t put this book down as Brand takes steps to secure his path of revenge. But with enemies dogging their every step, explosive battles and the passion continuously building between them, Brand has to entertain some new, radical ideas if he wants to claim Kasia. The author has also introduced more elements to her world which promises more exciting possibilities are in store for this series while some stunning ‘OH MY’ moments and unexpected twists keeps the adrenaline pumping throughout this energetic, exhilarating and satisfying dragon shifter story.

I acquired this book back in Feb 2021. Was in my TBR file. Well I finally got to it! I was so involved with this storyline, and fell in love with it. I wasn't even done 3/4 though and went and bought the rest of this series. Yes its that good. Oh and if you have a tendency to cry in books. Have Kleenex ready with books 3 & 4.

I’ve never read fantasy supernatural romance before but this book reeled me in and I’m surprised how much I loved it. I’m not a person who usually likes the fantasy genre whether it’s movies, tv shows, books etc. Much to the dismay of my friends and family, I never liked Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. I used to watch Vampire Diaries and Supernatural but I think that had more to do with the hot characters than a love for the creatures so color me surprised when I literally could not put this book down. Not only was the relationship between Brand and Kasia hot BUT the fantasy storyline captured my attention and I found myself unable to put this book down, staying up reading until 3am or later.

I’m not going to bother trying to explain this plot because I will screw it up with my lack of knowledge of the dragon shifter world. The gist is that Kasia is coming into her Phoenix powers where she gets visions and Brand, a rogue dragon shifter is sent to pick her up from this hospital she’s being kept at. Brand has a whole revenge plot hatched for the dragons who killed his family and getting a Phoenix to his friend, the king of the blue dragon clan, will help that plan along. However, Brand and Kasia have chemistry between them and that may throw a wrench in his centuries old plans.

I LOVED this and I’m eager to read the next book because it seems that the story will continue on in the next installments. The Rogue King had a complete ending in regards to Brand and Kasia but it was obvious the main storyline was not complete and would continue in the following books. This book is written in a way that I know I’ll still be able to know Kasia and Brand’s thoughts even if they are not the main characters anymore and I really like that. Also, Brand and Kasia have some seriously hot moments between the two of them like I never realized I’d find shifter romance so hot especially when Brand was in his dragon form.

As a first time reader I was very impressed with Ms.Owens.This first book in the Inferno Rising Series caught me with surprise. The world she has imagined and put to paper was so well done I could see it in my minds eye. The protagonists are a Dragon shifter Brand, a disposed King and a Phoenix, Kasia a Princess. Brand is out for revenge against a vicious and traitorous Dragon king who's one desire is to rule the rest of the dragons. The cruel king is also the who murdered Brand's whole family and stole the crown from Brand who was the rightful heir. Brand now works as a mercenary for another dragon king hoping to use this king in his quest for vengeance. Kasia is one of four daughters born to the mate of a fallen Dragon King also killed by the same cruel dragon. Kasia has a natural fear of dragons knowing one killed both of her parents. Brand is sent to retrieve the Phoenix for the King but finds out she is his mate. Interesting dilemma for Brand and a well-thought-out plot that kept me riveted for hours. If the next book in the series is as well written as the first, I will be a fan for life. Its becoming hard to find well written and perfectly edited romance books. This is one of those rare finds. Definitely a keeper.

HOW have I not been reading this series?

I downloaded this book months ago and never got around to reading it until now. But once I started, I was completely hooked.

Pretty much everything about this was a sexy, fast-paced, fun PNR ride.

The world building is great. The politics with the dragon clans, the spies, the creepy rotting king, the flying a dragon and telepathy...all of it.

This is not some epic fantasy tale or anything. It’s heavy on romance in a fantasy setting. It is, in fact, exactly what you’d expect from a book with a dude’s naked chest on the cover.

I would compare this to S. Young, in terms of world building, pacing, readability, etc. Even the whole “he’s tracked her down and is delivering her to another man” is similar to War of Hearts, though the characterizations are quite different. I’m in no way saying either author has even read the other’s work, let alone was inspired by it, just that as a reader, if you enjoyed one story, you’ll likely enjoy the other.

I’m diving straight back in for Skylar’s story when I finish this review.
