The story is set on a barrier island in North Carolina and spans three generations. Ivy, who left her home when she finished school, went to New York to experience a new lifestyle and progress with her career as a chef. However, when her grandmother dies after the resort she owned and ran for years was destroyed in a hurricane, Ivy goes back to her North Carolina home and reconnects with her friends from the past while settling her grandmother's estate. She discovers a lot about her grandmother that she did not know and finds more surprises about her family's history as she sorts through old photos and mementos. It was an interesting story, about the pros / cons of life in a smaller community versus the "big city" and how important relationships are in experiencing out best lives.
