Devon is back in the third installment of the Stonehaven League. As she struggles with an evolving village, she must try to continue the quest of finding the artifacts that will eventually allow her to release the ancient city of Ishildar for the curse that brought it down. In the real world, game developer Emerson digs deeper into the illegal mind taps that is causing dark powers to manifest online players.

In this latest segment, we encounter new enemies that Devon must find ways of defeating through ingenuity, magic and good old battle royal. This is a Role Playing Game (RPG) extraordinaire that is fun for fantasy fans as well as computer gamers or anyone who loves an action packed adventure.

This story like all open world games could go on forever and that would not be a bad thing!

Really enjoying this series. Great mix of settlement building with rpg aspects.

The real world stuff can be clunky and rushed at times, but love the game world.

I was debating over rating this book as a 3 or 4, but decided that the ending deserved a 4.

The MC Devon was somewhat pathetic in the beginning, leading me to question whether it was after effects of the episode at the end of book 2, something related to her mother kicking her out at 16, an attempt at humor, or the author getting sloppy.

The erratic pacing and confusing scenes continued until about mid-book, when possible explanations were forthcoming. This book was concentrated on real life - both game and friendship related. The budding romance was easily ignored, as there was little movement.
Quests tended to be simplistic and plots obvious.

The ending was optimistic, with some foreshadowing of future adventures outside "Champion" and city-building duties. The overall plot is linear despite opportunities to move in other directions.

Pro: continued slight improvement from the previous book on pretty much everything: characters, relationships, quests, and combat. We finally get some use again of illusion in combat as something other than a delivery mechanism for damage.

Con: It sounds kind of bad to say that I care more about the npcs than the RL people, but... Nothing in the previous books made me particularly emotionally invested in Tamara or Owen, so there's a significant chunk of page count here devoted to those side arcs that I could have done without (or at least have been led up to better to inspire more interest). Also, though Devon has some more variety in her arsenal thanks to leveling, the orc fights are otherwise a monotonous grind.

So, it turns out that Penelope did not actually mean for the implants to be highjacked, and the reason she did not immediately fix it is because she found out about the withdrawal symptoms. But the problem is the explanation why she convinced the company to give Emerson a forced vacation is because she was worried that he would just drop the patch to fix it without knowing about the withdrawal symptoms. The problem with this is that why did she not just tell him the entire story from the beginning? Get help from another expert programmer?
