Who better to fight fires than dragons? This calendar worthy set of shifters are fun as well as guardians. The romance between Delaney and Finn is a slow burn.

5.0 out of 5 stars This series keeps getting better and better!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Imagine finding out dragons exist. And that you are someone who could be a mate to one of them – you would become a dragon yourself and extend your lifespan! But if you choose wrong you die. An agonizing, horrible, painful death. Not to mention what happens to the dragon you mistakenly chose as well your true mate, the dragon you should have chosen. But hey, no pressure!

We briefly met Finn in the prequel as he is Fallon’s brother and boss. They work as firefighters in the human world where they watch for fires set by dragons, which they must put out without humans discovering that dragons exist. As enforcers, they are also responsible for finding and disciplining the dragons who set the fires. Finn has a sad history as he attempted to mate the woman he loved and instead watched her die, consumed by his dragon fire. After that he refused to contemplate a relationship with anyone other than the members of his team and closed himself off to the rest of the world.

Finn meets Delaney when the team rescues her from a dragon-caused fire. She is horrified to discover that her move across the country to escape these fires didn’t work. Finn knows that Delaney is being endangered by a dragon and insists that he, and his team, will protect her until they are able to find the cause of these fires and ensure her complete safety. What he doesn’t understand is why he cares, why he is so drawn to her and even though they just met, she somehow matters to him.

This book continues the excitement, plot, drama and pure enjoyment that Abigail Owen started in the prequel. We learn more details about the events that took place around Fallon’s mating to Maddie as well as the history behind them. We also get to meet more of the enforcers team and the others in and around their lives. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had to read the next one.

The Fire’s Edge series is off to a great start, not only was the prequel fantastic but the first book is as well. This fiery romance engages readers from the very first page and holds their attention throughout with bold, convincing characters that are easily connected to and their romance is sweet, full of sizzling chemistry and emotional turmoil that is quite different from other issues that couples may face. The decision to risk one’s heart after all is one that readers everywhere can relate Finn’s reasons for his reluctance to act on the sparks burning between him and Delany is an especially traumatic one and really the situation Delany finds herself in would traumatize most, so this couple is one that readers really want to get their happily ever after.

The fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with lots of thrilling suspense, exciting between dragons and nail biting anticipation. The Mate and The Boss take place simultaneously, so the events that take place in the prequel affect the characters in this story, so readers get an overall picture of the political unrest that will upset the dragon world but since this story is longer and gives more detail of this fascinating world and of course readers are introduced more of the dragons that inhabit this world, the readers are better able to understand the world and some of the motivations of the characters. Once again, I was thrilled with the new world that has sexy dragon firefighters and unique mating elements that add danger, spice and tension to matings and makes for a fascinating read, so I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Really enjoyed this book. Love the concept around dragon mates. But who is the spy in the camp, I have my suspicions so I am now off to get the next book. Great storyline and characters.

I like the leads (though not everything they do), I generally like the rest of the team, and rogue Rune seems intriguing, too, but I'm NOT going to continue with this series for a couple reasons, mainly to do with the foundational rules of this world.

First, there's the way too many dragon shifters wind up horribly killing women they mistakenly think are their mates, as witnessed right in the prologue. As the story progresses, we find out that, worse yet, the Council decides who will be among the candidate dragons presented to the still-human "dragon mate", and they may decide to leave someone out for political reasons or for having broken rules; it makes no sense that that they would be allowed to carry on like that, with dragon mates being in such scarce supply, and failures being so damaging (leaving the woman dead, one male spiritually maimed, and presumably another male w/o his destined mate). Of course, the mate marks that usually identify women as being destined for and capable of being turned don't make much sense, anyway: they indicate which clan of dragons she's meant for, but then she, the candidates, and the Council have to rely on uncertain instinct to choose which one?! (Maybe the author wanted to avoid simplistic insta-mating, but this is NOT the way!) Yet despite his own post-tragedy trauma, Finn believes in following the established process, at least for others. I, OTOH, would like to hear more about what Runs believes, and evaluate whether his methods and morals are any better than the ruthlessness accepted to keep some order among bellicose dragons of the various kingdoms.

Female born-dragons (No, AutoCorrect, I did NOT mean to say "high-ranking"! Good grief.) are "sterile", which sounds even more definitive than how in many werewolf universes females are unable to carry to term, given the need to shift. We're also told that no male dragon would be willing to raise another male's child, orphaned when a mated pair dies (since one can't live w/o the other), so most orphans wind up dead. Seriously? They sound like real winners, don't they?! I hate to believe it or the ones we've come to know. Seems to me that even living for hundreds of years, dragons would be deservedly extinct by now!

Another thing I didn't enjoy was the voyeuristic little "dirty fantasy" Finn and Delaney shared during the period after she finally convinced him to get past some of his psycho-emotional issues so they could be at least friends-with-benefits, and she had to adjust to the embarrassing/ titillating knowledge that they were having sex in close proximity to a team full of other dragon shifters with keen ears and noses. NOT sexy to me, I'm sorry.

The action/suspense plot had exciting moments (which I don't want to give spoilers of), but there are still some questions unresolved in the end. Apparently there was more than one dragon with stalker-y thoughts, or is Graff not really dead?! (We readers didn't see the body, but it sounded like the team did deal with it.) Why did Delaney not have a mate mark? Who's the mole for the rogue dragons? It looks like team-newbie Aidan and Delaney's single-mother friend/employer Sera are going to be the focus of a later book, so I won't count whatever's going on there as another loose end.

I just didn't find the good elements of this book enough to outweigh the basic problems for me. The writing was fine overall, though I did catch a handful of so of goofs: a missing word ( "to"), "about" where the syntax required "that", a switch into them back out of first-person pronouns in one of the stalker passages (which, if intentional, should've reversed the italicization, to indicate a thought, not mere narration), etc., but again, the style was not stellar enough to weigh in favor of reading more. Oh, well; you have to try new authors to find which ones are right for you. Sorry, Ms. Owen, but we're not a match.

The Boss is the first exciting story in the Fire’s Edge series by Abigail Owen. If this book is anything to go by, this series is not only off to an amazing start, but is also set to be phenomenal. This is a dragon shifter story with a difference- it has its own original and unique spin on dragon shifters that makes this story stand apart from others in the same genre. This is a wonderful paranormal romance, that also has an action-packed, sexy and suspenseful story woven through it. The story pulled me in right from the beginning and I became completely invested in the characters and the outcome of their story. I couldn’t have put it down, even if I had wanted to- my need to find out how everything played out had me devouring the whole book in one afternoon- and I absolutely loved it!!! This may be my first read from Ms. Owen, but it most certainly won’t be my last, as I have already gone back to one-click more of her works for me to enjoy. I really can’t wait to see where this series goes and discover more about these brilliant characters!!
Delaney Hamilton has moved across the country hoping for a fresh start, finding a great job co-managing a beautiful vineyard/winery and a place to stay. But her hopes of leaving the past behind are shattered when the fires that were plaguing her in Vermont start up again. She contemplates moving again, but decides that she’s done running, as it didn’t seem to work, anyway. Waking up with a fire burning all around her is a scary and confusing situation to find herself in. and what she doesn’t realise is when the sexy firefighters arrive to douse the fire, her world as she knew it is about to change, forever!
Finn Conleth and his crew were working in the area when they get alerted to a fire burning at the winery. They arrive on scene to put out the flames but find so much more than they bargained for. Finn is haunted by a traumatic experience, losing his mate in the process. This hardened his heart and made him vow never to take another mate, as he couldn’t endure any more pain. He is the leader of the HuracĆ”n’s - who are a crack team Enforcers who tackle any trouble caused by dragons, especially fires. The last thing that Finn expects when they arrive at the latest fire is to find someone who not only threatens his heart, but who also sparks his protective nature. He knows there is much more to her story and what has been happening to her- and he’s determined to get to the bottom of it all. But danger is stalking Delaney which soon threatens everything he values. Will he get to the bottom of it all? Can he keep them all safe? Will Delaney help him regain the part of himself he’d lost all those years ago? What does the future hold for these two?
This story was so much more than what I was expecting- from the incredible storytelling and wonderfully written tale, to the complex and lovingly crafted characters, then there were more than a few heart-in-my-mouth moments that had me scrambling to get answers, as well as some incredibly sexy and smokin’ hot scenes that left sizzle marks on the pages- making this book everything I could ask for and more! It’s emotional, touching, romantic, sweet, and HOT- a ā€˜Must Read’!!
I highly recommend this book and Ms. Owen! I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of this series!!!

Thank you, Ms. Owen!!

The Boss (Fire’s Edge #1)
By Abigail Owen
Rated 5 stars!!

Wowzer! Wow! Wow! I LoVe this story and did you see that cover?!! This book is outstanding! It has it all! Dragons( of course I had to mention them first), danger, love, fear, hate and a strong sassy woman. These dragons (all 10 of them) who work as enforcers are all very different. I loved learning about each of them. The colors, the shift, the man and beast. How can they be scary when they are so darn adorable! They all have different personalities but they have one thing in common.....they view each other as family.

Did I love Finn? YES! His story drew me in. I couldn’t get enough of him and his commanding voice. (Well he is the ā€œBossā€. ) He has had a rough past and that is leading him to be cautious of any future. Delaney.....Delaney....Delaney! You are a favorite! It’s not too often i have a favorite girl. But Dang you are so sassy and strong! I love your attitude! You blended in so nicely with the guys..it was kinda fun to watch (read). When you stood on that mountain and said—-those ā€œwordsā€ to Finn I was so proud of you and all that you have overcome. Simply wonderful!

My only issue (and it’s pretty tiny) is the traitor and the Rogue. Both of these were briefly touched upon but then really nothing else was mentioned. I am going to assume it’s for setting up one of the next books. Don’t let this deter you from this book. The story is still amazing because of the connections all the characters have with each other. On a side note I enjoyed meeting Lindi (Drake's Sister) and her ā€œboysā€.

This is my first book by this author and it will not be the last! I am looking forward to (and can hardly wait)reading about all these dragon shifters in the future (hint hint). The writing flows so nicely. I made connections to this crew without even trying. Even though it’s a large cast I didn’t feel overwhelmed by meeting ā€œthe guysā€ all at once. That tells me how engaging the writing is. The story was different but yet something I am familiar with and the character development was very good. The characters have a nice structure among them. The fun and bantering is what makes a great book to read.
When is the next one??

The Boss
By: Abigail Owen
5 out of 5 stars

The story The Boss by Abigail Owen is a paranormal romance book that I loved reading. I have always loved shifters and dragon shifters are right up there at the top. They are strong, passionate, and protective. This story drew me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Finn Conleth and Delaney Hamilton. Finn is a dragon shifter that vows never to attempt to mate again. A tragedy in the past has made him guard his heart and he will not take that risk again. Then Finn meets Delaney. I like Finn as he is a strong leader. He has strong bonds with his team. It is sad to read about how the past haunts him. Delaney is an intelligent, strong, and independent woman. She also knows that she has failed to escape the freak/suspicious fires that had caused her to move across the country. She knows that she needs help. Even though they just met she has a strong feeling that she can trust Finn. Will he and his team of enforcers be able to stop the one who is starting the fires and keep Delaney safe? Finn and Delaney both feel an attraction towards each other. There is the warm feeling when they touch and there is sparks/electricity that flows between them. He is very protective of her. What they start is a casual hook up, a physical relationship. Will it stay that way? These two have a desire for one another and there is passion between them. What does the future hold for Finn and Delaney? Read this book to find out. This is a story that has action scenes and at times had me wondering what was going to happen next. It does a wonderful job of providing details about the dragon shifters and their culture. There are also many other characters that are introduced, and I enjoyed reading about their part in the story and their interactions with Finn and Delaney. This is an amazing story that I highly recommend reading.

I am really enjoying the dragon shifter world the author created. She has given the dragons some abilities and characteristics that I think are unique and add some intensity to her stories. I love the idea of supernatural beings and humans being fated for each other. I know that not everyone appreciates this in a story, but I think it's incredibly romantic. To me, the idea of there being one special person in the world who is meant to be with you for eternity is totally swoon-inducing.

I loved Finn and Delaney and thought they made a great couple. We were given some good background information about each of them, so it was easy to connect with them and understand what made them tick. For me, this is always an important factor with fiction. If I don't feel like I know and understand the main characters, the story just won't go anywhere for me. This story took off like a rocket and kept going with plenty of action, romance, and suspense all the way through. My ideal kind of book!

All of Finn's enforcer team members are, of course, smokin' hot and I'm assuming will eventually get their own stories. It will be interesting to see how "Scooby and Shaggy" are handled in terms of each one finding his mate. Those two share everything, so. . .

This was a great book and I can't wait to continue with the series.
