Although a big fan of Jonni Good and devoted follower of her blog, I returned this book. I wish I'd looked into it more carefully, but got carried away by the enthusiasm of the author for the fun things she is presenting (which I saw on her blog). The problem? The book is based 100% on using a particular form of clay, and that clay is difficult to harden to permanent if you want to save the result you like. (After reading the instructions for trying to save a good result I would have to say "impossible" is really the word) The clay is available on Amazon, but not in local craft stores - at least in my local craft stores - which include the usual national chains. Incidentally, I also checked the websites of the national chains, and this clay wasn't available on them either.

I love the idea of playing around with clay and sculpting, without getting caught up in a result - great approach, and if it had been that approach using at least a few clay options - AND that some of those options could be hardened and saved in a reasonable way - then I'd be giving it 5 stars. As it is, be sure you want to try this with a specific clay - and make sure you can find it and that you will be happy with making art that you won't be able to keep if it turns out to your satisfaction.

Only because I think so highly of Jonni Good - and own her wonderful first book - did I ante up 2 stars.
