#TheFog #KyoMacLear #KenardPak #TundraBooks Unlikely friendships , hope, our environment; important topics not easily conveyed to young children. Some books are like beacons of light written for our times; so it is with The Fog. Since purchasing this picture book awhile ago I sometimes find myself reading it with my morning coffee. Why not? It's a part of my favourite's collection that sits in an honoured place on my desk. You guessed it , The Fog is for the young and the young at heart! A thought provoking tale told with delightful humour and loveable characters! Brilliant text with soft and gentle illustrations! Love The Fog can you tell?
I liked the pencil drawn illustrations. At first i thought the story was going in the direction of a bird doing human watching. Then it turned and took a twist. The fog had me bored. I think I had already became interested in seeing illustrations of the island. But there was only fog.The final pages of the night sky was nice ,but even the ending didn't seem like it took much thought.
I love Kenard Pak’s Illustration’s which is why I bought this. However, I wasn’t prepared for how funny (both my 6 year old and I guffawed loudly at different points) and also how profound the story would be. Just amazing. A child will get a lot from it, but arguably an older child, teenager or adult who spot the political metaphors, will get even more. Heartily recommended.
What a timely, remarkable picture book. A must have for bird (and people) watchers. It is a great friendship tale but ever so much more. The illustrations are swoon worthy. The illustrator, Kenard Pak is an absolute treasure. The emotions, warmth and atmosphere he conveys through his art is outstanding. One of my favorite children's books of the year.
