Full disclosure I have always been a Batman fan. I always thought green arrow was kind of a joke character. After reading the Dark Knight Returns I became intrigued with Green Arrow and based on recommendation picked up long bow hunters by Grell and was blown away. After that I was hooked and thrilled to see this omnibus collection. Mike wrote a compelling tale for Oliver. Stripping out some of the more fantastic elements of the DC universe (though there are some winks and nods) we’re left with a grounded and realistic Green Arrow hunting real life baddies from serial killers and mob thugs to poachers and terrorists. Lots of the plots were borrowed from real world events that were happening at the time of writing (Contra scandal, the Troubles in Ireland etc) and it’s fun to see these real world scenarios tackled by Oliver and his allies. It is a huge book. But every time I picked it up the pages flew by. Eagerly awaiting volume two!
At 1500 pages, this is an epic! collection. Beginning with the mature format Longbow Hunters that evolved Green Arrow into an urban hunter while staying true to roots, then 50 issues of the on-going comic. Grell is top of his form.
