Really enjoyed this book. It switches between present and past rather seamlessly; it also includes a family tree which I had to refer to several times. Story of a young girl who takes her mother’s ashes back to Virginia to bury her. She didn’t know her mother had family there.
Thus starts her journey to find her mother’s past, and her own past, who her father was etc. Multi-layered story.

I loved this book from start to finish. I read a lot of books which have two different timelines, past and present, this one had three, past, present and 3 decades earlier. So a lot of back and forth, but had no problem following, it helped that I read it quickly. There is a family tree, but on kindle it was so tiny that I could not make it out. There is a second book called Spring House, which has some of the characters from this book, I will be reading that one next

History shapes the present

The author uses back and forth story telling between many related characters over generations. A bit confusing, but before the first chapter, there's a family tree that comes in handy. Some mystery, love scenes are glossed over and history bits are nicely woven in. This is followed by Spring House, which is not as well put together, especially the ending which seems rushed.
