The first part of the book is very complete and traces all the parallel paths that lead to the creation of the semiconductor industry. The role of the transistor pioneers and that of the government, including the Department of Defense, are extremely well explained. However, the second part of the book deals with the U.S.-China duel, and this leads to a series of platitudes about Chinese communism and Asian incompetence. As much as the first part was based on a nuanced analysis of the power relations, the second part looks like an anthology of American anti-Chinese propaganda. This book is a wasted promise.
