DANGEROUS -- AVOID!!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 30, 2019
I purchased this product in January but didn't use it until last week. My bike is a large one, but according to the description, the bar fit it. And though at first when I received it I thought it didn't fit and nearly returned it, I realized that it actually did fit when extended fully and placed on the bike properly. But it was definitely stretched out to its maximum length, and the point at which the inner bar, which is attached with a strong spring, met the outer bar, it clearly was buckling slightly put atop the rack. But I lifted the bike at that joint with my hands several times, and it seemed like it would hold. And it did for the trip up. But on the way back, well... look at the pictures. The bike was perfectly balanced and the weight evenly distributed atop the rack, but nevertheless, the two pieces broke apart and the bike slipped. Luckily, I had tied the bike off with multiple cables and bungees so it didn't fall off, but if it had, the failure of this product could have killed someone. Now to be fair, I cannot attest to the durability of this product if it isn't being used at maximum length. However, it should of course be able to handle what it was designed for no matter which length it is pulled to, and to be clear, I did not modify it in any way, I simply had it extended to its maximum allowed length. For these reasons, I STRONGLY URGE anyone reading this to look elsewhere if you need some kind of tension bar for your bike in order to be able to use it on a rack. Again, as I said, I am not exaggerating when I state this product could have been responsible for killing someone. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
