To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I purchased this soap while in France and loved it! When I saw it was on amazon I was thrilled to be able to buy it here in the states. When I got it, it was dry and covered in broken brittle pieces. I then went on to use it and noticed the horrible smell of machine oil. The original has subtle hints of olive oil but this one made my lungs hurt after washing my hands. Next, I noticed that it did not lather the way a nice olive oil soap lathers but more like a harsh one like Irish Spring or some cheap one like that which also dries your skin after you use it. My hands were a little red and warm feeling after the brief wash I gave them in cold water. This soap is so bad that I wish my review did not get buried in all of the fake ones because I really think this is not only a fake but an unsafe product.
I ordered the olive oil and when I opened it, it was definitely NOT a legitimate product. It had a terrible, strong chemical smell. I thought maybe I was crazy or imagining it so I left it out for several days but that didn't change anything. Real pre de provence does not smell like it's made of burning rubber..
I've used olive oil soaps for years, and this is by far the worst I've tried. The soap has a strong chemical smell, and it's very drying and stripping on the skin. (And I don't have dry or sensitive skin.) Could probably grate it and make homemade laundry soap out of it, but it's not fit for use on skin.
