I bought this hood for my crested gecko's new bioactive tank, and it's working great so far. I have it set up on a timer (bought separately) so that it turns on at 8am and off at 7pm. The hood sits on the top of his tank (18x18x24) right in the middle so that the plants all grow up towards it and not at an angle. I have a mister set up in the back corner and haven't had any issues with water getting into the hood, which is something I was concerned about at first. The hood is really easy to set up, and the bulbs are pretty affordable (I buy a 2 pack of 26w bulbs, using one at a time). I appreciate that you can control each side with its own switch, so I keep the side without a bulb switched off to conserve power.
I just purchased a Exo terrarium, it is around 30 gallons, 18x18x24. And with it I purchased the recomended hood, I didn't care for it due to one switch for two bulbs, day and night. So it was all or nothing. I returned it and purchased one from Zoo Med and although it's not a exact fit, it fits fine, it looks great and it has TWO switches. Now this makes sense to me, one switch for the day light bulb AND a separate switch for the night time bulb. I am a beginner with a crested gecko and this is a perfect hood.
I got this to replace 2 dome style lights I've had above my leopard gecko's tank. Her tank is displayed out in the open and honestly I always thought the dome lights looked junky and tacky in my home . I decided to treat myself and order this Terrarium Hood Light and it looks so much nicer and neater. It's sleek and I love that each light has it's own on/off switch. No one in town could even come close to the deal I got here on Amazon.
