4.0 out of 5 starsGreat!

Wow, recommended to anyone who wishes to improve their communication skills. I love that there is a review after each chapter about communication one on one, as a group and to an audience

2.0 out of 5 starsThe message is good, the format is distracting
Reviewed in Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ on December 27, 2021
The font size is changing frequently which I find visually distracting since it changes my focus and makes it harder to me to connect with the message which is what the book is supposed to be about. Good content but Iโ€™m not enjoying the read.

I'm a fan of John Maxwell books, but this one does not have a lot to offer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay.

This book wasn't quite what I was expecting. A better title might have been--How to be a good public speaker--Some of the tips were insightful but many were just what you normally hear--smile, be confident, connect with your listener, express appreciation, use humour, prepare well, etc. Perhaps this book would be best for a young adult.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you are buying ONE book on the subject.

Itโ€™s another doctor feel good work. How many books has he written on essentially the same subject?

If you only read ONE of his books it is as good as another. I have purchased several and this is my last unless he writes a mystery novel.

I suspect it will be good. He is an excellent writer but has worn this material down to the bottom.

How many times can you say the same thing with a slight twist?

I guess the answer is, โ€œAs long as someone will spend more money on it.โ€

I canโ€™t fault anyone for being able to make a buck I wish I had done it first.

The book is well written. On topic (again) and worthy of being the only book from this author on your library shelf. Then go read what others have to contribute to your life.

I canโ€™t give it a single star and I canโ€™t give it a five star either. So I settled on. three stars as a compromise of sorts. Wish I could do better but canโ€™t.

I am really interested in the subjects of communication and getting along with other humans, connecting with them, touching their hearts and souls, inspiring them to action and give to them and love them! I think that our connection with everyone else is crucial for our sense of wellbeing and happiness! I really like all of John's work and honestly think he is one of the best connectors, speakers! He has unique style and abillities that help him get to people and connect with them! Decent book worth reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ideas in book promote good conversation

I like many of the ideas shared in the book and the concepts can help move a group of people who communicate with each other to being able to really build stronger work relationships...and connect with each other. Useful information is shared. It was most useful when I focused on the concepts and how to apply the ideas to work I was doing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting read, but nothing you didn't already know

Its a quite uplifting read, Maxwell writes in a positive tone and brings up
many reminders for personal qualities that lead to connection and
likeability. However, I was hoping that the author had some special
insights into one-to-one interaction and connection, but there is essentially
nothing about that, most of it is common-sense stuff related to connecting
to a group of people when giving a seminar or speech.

This book is pretty good but wordy and I found myself tuning out the Audio book version...honestly there are other books out there that are shorter and easier to follow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good message but extremely repetitive, irritatingly so
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on May 6, 2014

About 40% of this book is worthwhile and the other 60% is the 40% repeated so many times it is nauseating. Beating the topic to death and felt to me at least like a bit self-important... talks about himself a lot.

This book has good communication ideas to think about. Most of the details are repeated over and over to make them stick with you. It's good to be reminded of these communication goals as you function in your work day. The ideas are mostly common sense.
