5.0 out of 5 starsSuper easy to use
Reviewed in Canada on July 1, 2018
Bought this exactly 1 month ago to water a new cedar hedge with a soaker hose.
It's been working perfectly and was super easy to use. Just spin the dial and set it.
I have to water these trees every day for the first year and it was becoming tedious.
Now they get 30 minutes of water every morning so they're not sitting around wet all night attracting slugs.
I used the rain delay button twice and it worked as well.
One of the most useful things I've gotten off of Amazon.

It definitely sounds like you need to detach it for winter. Honestly it would take 30 seconds to unscrew so I don't see why anyone would leave it out to freeze and crack. Same with any gardening equipment.

3.0 out of 5 stars30% failure rate after 2 years
Reviewed in Canada on May 19, 2020
This is one of those devices that works great (5star) when it works; and just as advertised. But it only has a 1 year warranty. Out of 3 units I purchased together 1 failed in the electronics after 2 years. I took this unit apart and was impressed with the mechanical sturdiness. They key to take advantage of this sturdiness is to never let the unit freeze (I stored mine in a warm storage space). The weakness is the "programmable" electronics (a relatively recent addition to the line of water timers. Making electronics that can stand up to the temperature cycles of hot in the direct sun to cold in the shade is not easy: and Orbit clearly struggle.; as do many with outdoor devices. When I opened it up I expected to be able to easily get to the circuit board and expected that it would have been made replaceable (after obtaining a replacement part from Orbit). This is not so: the circuit board cannot be replaced. This is very poor design; I am left with throwing away the complete unit for what was probably a loose connection of solder point.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaks water, turns on by itself and runs well and cistern dry
Reviewed in Canada on July 28, 2020

Product is Junk
Setup a timer to water the garden every morning, just once daily.

This timer has a habit of randomly going into “manual mode” and turning on for hours and has drained my cistern tank dry numerous times.

It also developed a leak , and the unit is dripping (not from the fittings)..

Spend a little extra money and buy one that’s better quality

I have owned this less than 2 months and already these issues...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, but has 2 flaws...
Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2019

Overall the timer is well built and it's been working for the last month. I had two others from another brand fail on me! Giving this 3 stars because of two flaws. When setting the timer for multiple times per day, we can only choose every 12hrs (twice a day) or every 6hrs (four times a day). You can't choose every 8 hrs, for three times a day, which is what's recommend for new grass. Also, when the timer is "off", the manual watering function does not work, so you have to turn the timer on to water manually. Then you have to turn it back off, if you don't want the timer to activate. Something to consider when comparing this with other brands.

4.0 out of 5 stars So easy and works great!

Cons:
-none so far
-top fitting that connects to faucet cracked.
Prod:
-nice big buttons and dial. The dial is about 2" round so easily adjustable even with gloves.
-features and quick setting are more logical and useful than I would have guessed.
-seems like good quality plastic and should last a long time.
-very easy to set. I set it all up with out instructions(yes I am a man).

Bought this with soaker hose and is keeping my raised vegetable garden nicely watered. Really happy with my purchase. I had looked before in stores and never found one this cheap. Plus think this one is made better than any I saw in stores.

Would recommend to a friend.

I will update if I have any issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to use and does the job

Arrived early.
Great and easy to use. Just screw it onto the faucet and onto the hose at the bottom.
Important: Be sure to remove the little screen mesh filter for the water intake, or your pressure will be cut in half! I have municipal water, so do not need an intake filter. If you need an intake filter, then expect much lower pressure.
Instructions and use is very simple. Just turn the dial and set the feature (how often, how long, etc.). There are only a few settings.
Large digital read-out is easy to see.
If you do not want an entire computer to mamage watering, and just a few things to program in 2 minutes, then buy this one,

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective - stopped working in manual mode.

Defective - stopped working in manual mode as mentioned by other reviews. I set it for 20 minutes yesterday and it ran for an hour till I manually shut it off, the first time that I had that problem. No point in having a timer if it doesn't shut off when its supposed to. Have exceeded the Amazon, 30 day return by three weeks. Not happy with this product or the return policy for defective merchandise. Won't buy another Orbit Irrigation product. If there's a way to return this product, I would like to know please.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job well.
Reviewed in Canada on August 6, 2018

This timer has worked well for my purposes, i.e. to water my plants for a few days in the middle of the most intense summer heat with me being away. The person who keeps an eye on the home doesn't also have to worry about watering the plants, and doesn't have to be blamed for killing them. In my experience, this timer is more reliable than anyone I've ever had water my plants.

I have an adapter on my kitchen faucet that connects to a short leader hose that connects to the timer. I attach a splitter and a microtubing setup to the output, to water my indoor and outdoor plants. The splitter has separate valves for each output. The timer works well under these conditions.

I've tested the timer function, the rain-delay function, and the manual function. All work well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't lose the instruction booklet
Reviewed in Canada on August 12, 2020

The programming is about as simple as it can be: rotate the dial to the item you want to enter, then use the +/- buttons to change the value.
The instructions are vague on some of the behaviour of the secondary features, like Rain Delay.
The website does not appear to offer PDF versions of the instructions, so people like me who like to keep electronic copies as insurance against losing the manual are forced to view the video. (I personally do NOT like video instructions because you are forced to sit through the whole thing to get to the one item you had a question about, only to find the manufacturer didn't cover that.)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my second Timer. Works real well!
Reviewed in Canada on May 18, 2020

Most reviews are people talking about a product they just purchased this review is about this timer I purchased last year. I have purchased other types of timers in the past and they seem to last from 1 to 2 years this one has passed its first year and is working great I just purchased a second one for an extra zone this year. I did take the timer in during winter so it would not freeze or crack. Even though I forgot to take the batteries out but there was no problems when I checked it this spring I did replace them with new batteries though. Great product will review in another year and see if it can make it to two years.
