How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Many books that attempt to teach techniques fall flat because the examples given rarely connect with real-life situations. What Dr. Conte does in this book is make the instances feel authentic and applicable. His compassion, understanding, and real-life experience as a counselor and supervisor shine brilliantly throughout the book as every instance and example underscore his innovative, refreshing, and universally applicable "Yield Theory" approach to handling people in general, within and apart from the counseling and psychotherapy field. This book is a must-read for all professionals, para-professionals, and those aspiring to contribute in any form to the field of helping others, as well as managers of all kinds. Parents, counselors, therapists, student advisers, psychosocial rehabilitation workers, social workers, student service professionals and supervisors of people in all capacities would do their clients, proteges, and subordinates well to read and study this book and its insights. Though it is designed as a classroom supplement, it can be referenced and understood easily by anyone who works with or supervises people.

The advanced counseling and psychotherapy techniques are written in very straight-forward, everyday and easy to understand language that you can easily visualize and practice them in your head before actually doing them. This books also covers a wide range of techniques from different modalities of therapy and counseling. I would recommend this book to counsel ours, therapists, and even, experienced mediators!

5.0 out of 5 stars Conte on Counseling - a Wonderful Text

For any consumer of mental health services and for ALL providers, this is a seminal text and one that does a wonderful job of pulling back the curtain on the Wizard that is your psycho-therapist. You will understand the genesis of a therapy, its intended goal and the roots all such therapies have in the classic texts and ancient mythologies. Candidly, it doesn't get any better than this. A book you'll reference time and time again well into your future.

This book has helped me so much in my counseling career. I am a graduate of a top Masters Program in Marriage and Family Therapy. One of my professors mentioned this book so I decided to buy it. In all honesty, this was the best book I purchased. Dr. Conte's Yield Theory has enhanced my ability to connect to my clients. In addition, I enjoy using the techniques in this book. They have taken my counseling to another level. I am getting better and better at telling the stories/metaphors and I'm always amazed at the reactions my clients have as they connect the stories/metaphors to their own lives. I highly recommend this book to everyone in the profession!

I was required to buy this book in my master's program for clinical mental health counseling. It is a resource I am glad I have. I have often referred to it in my academic and professional counseling experiences.
