To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I didn't realize that it came with the bulb already in it so that's a plus. There are zero instructions how to replace the bulb when the time comes, or in the instance I had, the bulb needed to be secured by being locked in so to turn on. You will need a small screw driver to remove two screws that hold the plastic frame in place when you have to access the bulb..
Good overall product, reasonable price, compact size, light weight - which allows for flexibility in mounting options. Didn’t rate as five star as longevity isn’t great. I’m on my third unit, and each time the unit has failed before even a single bulb change.
I did want to post one persons experience in response to some of the others talking about lack of UVB, noting this is experience only, NOT science based. I have a beardie, aquired sa baby exactly two years ago. My beardie is in good health and good spirits. My beardie doesn’t bask and doesn’t use hides. The terrarium has one corner unlit/unheated, one corner unlit but with a ceramic heat unit, one corner lit with a heat lamp, and one corner unheated, but lit with this UVB unit. My beadie spends all of its time on the end with the cermic heat and UVB light units. That end also has a ‘felt carpet’ like terrarium liner. A few weeks back it burrowed under the liner. It had occosionally done that before for a day at a time, but this time was different, longer, more lethatgic. I concluded it was in brumation. Then the next day my prior UVB unit (same model) stopped working. I got this replacement unit, installed it, and my beardie came out immediately. While it moves around as it habitually does, it has spent all of its resting time since install in the UVB corner of the tank. Again, not science based, but behavior deffinately suggests it is seeking out proximaty to this unit.
Got this light for my Sulcata Tortoise and it works well for giving him the UV light he needs while indoors. It’s easy to use, set up was simple; we hung it on the wall and it sits off the wall far enough that it sits and covers most of his habitat with UV.
I got this product for my bearded dragon to give him his UV rays. When it arrived, I plugged it in, but it didn't work. I was bummed until I realized that the connections on the bulb were not touching the connections on the fixture itself. I had to unscrew that casing, & tighten/twist the bulb so it was appropriately completing the power circuit. All is well.
I feel like it should be brighter, but maybe it's good that it's not?? My previous bulbs were a lot hotter, so I had to adjust heat BC now there's not enough in the terrarium. But the product seems well made.
This light works great. It comes with a bulb that is pretty bright, it lights up my 20 gallon tank perfectly. I have mine just sitting on top of my screen lid but there are holes in the back where you can mount it on a wall if you want to. When I first got it though, I thought it was broken. It was a little difficult to get the bulb to turn in the fixture for it to come on. The light came already in the fixture and when I tried to turn it on, it didn't come on. So I unscrewed it and tried to turn the bulb to the on position but it wouldn't go very far, then I finally got it to turn and then it wouldn't stop turning. Usually with this type of light you put the prongs in the holes and then turn the bulb until the prongs stop it from going any farther and then it works. This light though, doesn't stop turning, once you get the prongs into the holes and turn it, it just keeps going, you can turn it all the way around. You have to turn it about half way and leave it for the light to work, the bulb isn't loose or anything, the fixture holds it well. (I hope all that makes sense. I also don't know if this is a bad thing, or just how they're made.) I've been using it for a few weeks now for about 14 hours a day and it's working great.
