4.0 out of 5 starsThe Good. Put together easily
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on May 29, 2017
This purchase was to enable my wife to take the kids biking when I am out of town. The Good. Put together easily. Attaches to the hitch with no issues.( I like that the pin needs to be screwed in) . Reasonable weight(its made of solid metal, so has some heft). The straps to attached bikes are easy to figure out. Little movement of bikes when attached and driving.

Issues. I like that the pin needs to be screwed in BUT you cannot lock it, pretty easy for a thief to walk off with the carrier if they have some pliers or a wrench. Also,This is not a knock on the carrier but on bike manufacturers but two of 5 bikes(kids) wouldn't go on the carrier, of the other three , only my male adult bike went on easily. This is a standard problem that I have seen with pretty much all carriers unless you spend some more $ and buy the bars they sell to make it easier. ( Yay, world where they build things purposefully to make you spend more $.)

3.0 out of 5 starsWorks great, very heavy
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on August 25, 2020
We have two adult bikes, a teen bike, and 2 smaller 20" kids' bikes and this rack fits them all - eventually. If you have 'odd' frame shapes it can be a struggle to fit the bikes on. But once they're on, they're on. Only other issue is the wobble. The way the rack is designed there are 2 joints that get well secured but don't fully 'lock' into place so there's a bit of play that results in some good bouncing when you drive over bumps. Gives my wife a scare. I personally have full faith in the construction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Allen 5-bike rack
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on July 25, 2021

Easily fits 5 bikes. 3 were kids bikes but adult bikes seem much easier to fit than kids bikes because of their big frames. Tapered rack does help for kids bikes though. The rubber straps are much better than Allen Sports threaded straps. Also the chunky holds provide lots of stabilization options. Has a bit of wobble but nothing concerning and provides ways to stabilize with threaded hand screw. I'd imagine it's better than other racks as I also looked at the Allen 5-bike one that had more pieces fastened together. I also like the pull tilt feature but you still need to take out the pin. Drove the 5 bikes around the block fairly aggressively without problems...look forward to a longer trip. Very hard (impossible?) to tilt with bikes on. Also blocks a good part of rear view camera. I can live with that as I'm sure any similar rack would do the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 bike rack as advertised. Stable and feels safe.

Fits 2 adult bikes (both with horizontal cross bar, 26") and 3 kids bikes (odd shaped bars, two 14" and one 16"). Some challenges to get all bikes to fit with the odd shaped frames, but the adjustable mounts helped a lot. I used a ratchet strap to tie from the top of the frame back to my vehicle roof rack for a bit of extra stability . Very recommended. Fits well into my 2" hitch and the tilt mechanism works well - takes 2-3 steps to tilt and do not expect it to be effort free, but works. Be prepared to have to plan ahead, try a few options, and have to adjust your bikes to get them all to fit. Overall very happy, including 250lb rating vs comparable Thule/Yakima 5 bike racks with only a 150lb rating. Half the price of the big brands - imagine for the extra $300 you would get something marginally easier to use. For me this rack is great, feels safe, and fits bikes for my wife and I and 3 kids.

Super stable at the back of our motorhome, great quality and easy to install. Not as easy to use (ie folding the the rack) as my previous Thule 4-bike rack but much better in terms of stability and sturdiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't understand the complaints in other reviews

Yes you can fit five bikes on this rack. I've even put a girls bike on upside down.
Yes you can run a bike lock through the hitch security ring to the trailer hitch safety chain loops to lock the hitch to the vehicle.
If you secure it properly there is very little rattle and sway for a two inch receiver.
My only complaint is that it is very heavy but this gives you a very high weight capacity.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 out of 5 stars, 2000+ miles and performed great

If I could give it 4.5 stars I would, but I rounded up. I bought this product in anticipation of the great American road trip. We used it while traveling 2350 miles, from Colorado to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, and back through Colorado, mounted on the back of a newer model Toyota Sequoia. We are not a serious biking family, so I did not want to spend the money for a significantly more expensive product like a Thule or a Yakima, so I can't judge whether this is a better product than those pricey models. We mounted two adult mountain bikes, a "beach cruiser" type adult bike, a small mountain bike, and a BMX size bike. It did not take any serious "Jenga" effort to fit all those bikes on there, although I did need the adapter for the cruiser used on step-through frame bikes. I did have the heavier bikes closer to the vertical tube, but I think you could put 5 adult size bikes on here without any issue. I think that if all the bikes were the same style, it might even be easier. There is plenty of clearance from the vertical tube to the ends of the carrier bars to fit five bikes, and the blocks are adjustable. I really liked that you get more than enough rubber straps; I think it came with at least 18.

No issues with bars bending, swaying, or any kind of black rubber residue (as was noted on the Allen Sports Premier Hitch Mounted 5-Bike Carrier, which is why I chose this one over that one). Assembly was really easy, and takes less than 20 minutes with basic tools and skills. Mounted the bottom part that attaches to the hitch with the threaded bolt which prevents sway, Then attach the vertical tube and the actual carrier part. The only thing I did not like is that the mounted bolts and pins were previously used, as you could clearly see tool marks on them. My gut instinct is that someone bought the item I have, tried it and then returned it. No marks were visible on the carrier itself though. I like that the carrier bars that the bikes rest on seem to have a slight amount of flex in them, which I believe makes them much more resistant to bending than some of the competition models. The tilt function on this carrier works very well and when it is tilted down at about a 45 degree angle, I had full access to open the back hatch on my Sequoia, and I believe most full size SUV's would not have any issues.

The bikes did not really shift at all the whole trip other than some minimal movement of the blocks on the carrier bars. I will say though that life is great on the interstate, but beware of bumps on by-ways. I hit a low spot in a neighborhood going too fast and the bounce of the bikes got my attention real quickly. Even then, they did not come unsecured. The only other issue I had is just a physics problem and not an issue with the product: Five bicycles are really heavy when you have to lift the carrier from the tilted to the upright position. I'm not a huge guy (nearly 6 feet and 200 pounds) and am decently strong, but it was not an exercise I enjoyed. It also is a two person job, as it requires at least one person to lift, and another to pin the carrier back into position. So that is probably the most serious consideration for smaller than average folks with this product. Something that swings away horizontally might be a better choice for you. I will note that on my vehicle, when in the tilt position, the smaller bikes being the most rearward meant that they did not hit the ground and bare the weight of the carrier. This might not be the case with adult bikes, so you could potentially bend the wheels on the outermost bike if you are not careful. It seems to me this carrier is really designed for a family: 2 adults and three kid - sized bikes.

Pros:
Easy assembly
Stout construction
No sway issues
Plenty of tie down straps with no residue
Will fit five full size bikes easily
Tilt feature is useful on full size SUV type vehicles with hatches

Cons:
Used mounting hardware on my item
Carrier will still "bounce" at the upper part if you hit a serious bump
Apparently bikes defy the laws of physics and gain mass while traveling: Five bikes are HEAVY to lift from tilt to upright
so Tilt feature may not be for everyone
