I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, it was based around a girl who wanted to one-up Lulu at everything, but instead of Lulu’s mother suggesting what she can do about the situation, she just dismisses Lulus complaints and says “maybe you’ll like her tommorrow”. Really?? It teaches Lulu to accept the behaviour of the rude witch instead of teaching Lulu to stand up for herself when someone is mean spirited. I’d rather my daughter learn how to stand up for herself than keep allowing a bully to ruin her day. Could have been a much better book.
This is a cute book, especially for spooky season. But, I find myself on the fence about the overall theme. There's a bully, and how the bully is dealt with just didn't sit all the way right with me. So while it had some good reader words, and a lot of decodable words - the overall message doesn't make me reach for this book first as a parent.
My daughter loved this book, she wanted me to read it over and over again. She is in 1st grade and the book was still too challenging for her to read on her own. It is level 2, so I expected it might be.
I saw a comment saying that this story has no plot, which isn’t true at all. It has an adorable plot and the pictures are amazing. Perfect for my pre-kindergarten 5 year-old to nearly be able to read on her own. This book also seems to perfectly prepare junior readers for longer chapter books as it is a bit on the longer side.
Bought for my 7 year old Granddaughter that just moved to Germany as a Halloween surprise package. Very cute age appropriate book that will go well with a stuffed animal, other books and lots of candy!
