3.0 out of 5 stars I'm the minority that didn't enjoy this book

I read the good reviews and bought for my son, however, upon reading it, I found it preachy. It's about a lot of values that I believe in, however it feels like a "must do" list. I love childrens books, however I won't enjoy reading this to him. Great illustrations though.

3.0 out of 5 stars for vegans only!

I'm bringing up my children as vegetarians and have been desperately looking for a book to help me explain to my daughter who has just turned 3, a bit more about the reasons why, as well as to interest her in the subject and get her talking about it. This is not that book! Its ok, I quite like the pictures, but she is not that interested. She likes the ABC way of presenting things as I'm teaching her the alphabet but I think the target audience is a bit older than 3. I also found it a little bit extreme for my 'ovo-lacto-vegetarian' diet with it definitely aimed at the hardcore vegan (yes i probably should have understood that from the title!) and I don't really want to teach her 'its bad/ wrong to eat meat etc' but rather that 'while I don't think its ok, for others it may be', which does not come across at all in this book, which feels a bit like an instruction manuel for a strict vegan lifestyle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some may like the silly humour

As a vegan I love the idea of talking about veganism with kids so they understand. Some language in the book is obviously meant for fun, a laugh with the kids but maybe not 100% wholesome. Nice to use this as one of a few books so they can think of a variety of ways to talk about our family values and lifestyle with friends.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for vegan lifestyle, thoughts could be better expressed

My 3 year old son loves this book because he can relate to the vegan lifestyle aspects. Although the book could be better if the letter of the alphabet actually corresponded with the picture or the idea. "J is for jail" but my my son always remembers "sad lion" not jail. Also "e is for egg from a chickens butt-wow" I think some of the ideas are great, but they could have been more clearly expressed. We love the books because it's about vegan lifestyle but quality of the information and how it was presented needs improvement. Thanks for providing a vegan book ruby Roth!

Right?
3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but a little preachy

I like this book but it comes across as a little preachy rather than fun...and some of the reasons why we don't eat animal products are more about how they are gross than cruel (eggs from a chicken's butt etc...). I know that veganism can often be a lot about what we DON'T do and the cruelty behind it, but those things are depressing. I was hoping for a book that is a little bit more about our love of animals, our respect for the environment, our inclusiveness, our empathy...just a little more lighthearted and fun.

While I know all of the things in this book are accurate & we agree as a family that veganism Is best for us, I felt a little put off by certain pages of this book. It's very important to us that our daughter doesn't grow up feeling that she's better than others because she's vegan.. I felt a hint of elitism while reading, but overall it's a great book & that can be explained to her as she goes through life!

I was really excited about this book but i was a little disappointed. I guess I was expecting sonrthing different. My son is 2 and i was hoping it would help me explain some issues to him but not so much.
It is a cute book and i like the pictures. I may try one of her other books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good art, wrong audience.

The intention is great. But I found it a bit less cute for toddlers. The art is great, just for the wrong audience in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a nice book...

though some of the expressions used could be a little bit more elaborated (I know it is for children) but for instance Eggs are not good not because they come out through the rear of a chicken... But in general it's a nice "light" book...
