5.0 out of 5 stars"Some Perfect Performances From All"

I just love [Robert Redford]movies, you will never see this guy doing
big shoot-em-up or huge car chases type movies, the guy is a thinking man
movie maker, this is what this one is,I can't give any Spoilers away here,
because at thirty minutes into the movie I figured out the plot, and as
it went on I sort of got the whole picture before the end?I think you will too,
I just wish there was a little more tension to build on it lacked a little of that,
but overall [the Company You Keep] is good reminder of,if you want to do
anything,[underhanded that is]do it yourself that way you have nobody to
blame but yourself,I think why the movie lack it's Tension they are fourteen
big name actors in this with a limited screen time, the two main characters
is Redford and Shia LaBeouf,so I don't think anything could be done to improve
that on less you make the movie four hours long..

1.0 out of 5 starsOh Robert...What Happened Here?
Reviewed in Canada on February 6, 2016
This movie was a huge disappointment. I expected a LOT better from Robert Redford but it fell well short of the mark, for so many reasons.

SPOILER:

So many things in this story didn't add up, just a couple of examples: The FBI is looking for this Nick for over 30 years and can't find him with all their resources, technology etc..but a young, brash reporter does a few clicks on Google and voila, all is revealed. Come on!!!

Having Robert Redford as the father of a very young girl made him look even older than usual. Could they not have made it just a bit believable by having his daughter at least in her teens. He looked like a grandpa or great grandpa in this one. SO sad.

He supposedly commits a murder, in the day time, at a bank but he's not even there. Again, come on!!! They did have video cameras in the 70s in places like banks at least, how could they screw this up so badly?

The lack of chemistry between Julie Christie (she is still so beautiful though) and Robert Redford was painful to watch. Two great actors but no sparks at all!

There were more faux pas, but that was enough to totally discredit this movie, IMO.

Robert Redford has made some wonderful movies, this isn't one of them. Maybe time to give directing and acting a miss. Leave a legacy of quality work instead of drivel like this one.

This was a good movie. It was an interesting story about some middle aged people who as teenagers were part of an activist group. As teenagers, they robbed a bank to raise money for their cause and during the robbery someone was killed. They spend several decades on the run living under other names. At a certain point in time, some of them get tired of running. The acting is very good and the story was well written. I really enjoyed this movie.

I enjoyed this movie. It reminded me of a much earlier one, Running on Empty. As a person who "clicked the Regime Change Button" nearly half a century ago, involving a lengthy period of precariousness, they both had a hold on me, bringing up many memories.

a nice who-done-it for the senior set...for whom Robert Redford is such a favourite..Although I was somewhat underwhelmed by the motives of one of the principal characters, I did enjoy the movie. nice to have characters sensitive to their reputation. It is important what the world thinks of you when you are gone.

As to be expected with a Redford directed film, this is all about the characters, real depth, real people in a plausible situation. Pleasingly free of sensationalism and melodrama. The acting throughout is flawless except I found it hard to look at Redford without thinking he is too old for the part, he is clearly older than those who are cast as his contemporaries. The story pulls you in and keeps you involved until the credits role. If you are a fan of Redford's direction, then you will not be disappointed by this film; I watched it twice on consecutive days, and it still had my full attention on the second viewing. It's still by the DVD player as I expect I'm not done with it yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guilt by association

In the United States there has always been a deep suspicion of big government and in the late 1960s and 1970s a left wing militant organisation called the Weather Underground took its anti-Vietnam war protest to another level by bombing government buildings and robbing banks. When the organisation disbanded members of this domestic terrorist group went into hiding and reinvented themselves as respectable members of the community with alternative names and identities, despite still being FBI fugitives. The decision of Susan Sarandon’s New York housewife to turn herself in to the FBI after 30 years sets in train a series of events which allows the movie to melancholy reflect on the inevitable consequences of radical acts undertaken for political ideals, that despite valid concerns the ramifications due to the use of violence are widespread and unavoidable. The narrative centres on Robert Redford’s recent widower, single father and New York attorney, wanted by the authorities for a murder committed during a bank robbery and now hunted by the FBI and Shia Labeouf’s ambitious, persistent and devious reporter. This is a well-paced, intelligent and absorbing political thriller with a cast including (among others) Julie Christie, Stanley Tucci, Nick Nolte, Richard Jenkins, Brendan Gleeson, Chris Cooper and Sam Elliot - giving the film an unexpected underlying feeling of pathos and sadness. Although not as compelling as Three Days of the Condor or All The President’s Men, the movie is still worth seeking out for its astute political observations and insights.
