Whether you have investment banking experience or not, this book will prove to be an invaluable tool in learning the technical and fundamental aspects of a leveraged buyout. The book is written in great detail and provides a step by step analysis of the case for you to model out as you go. Prior to reading this book, I had to google what a leveraged buyout even was, and now I feel as though I have a great grasp on the concept and the technicals! A must read for finance professionals & newcomers alike!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are into modeling and investment banking, this will be a great addition to your library!

A great follow-up to the first book in the series, it expands on the knowledge base and tool set of “Financial Modeling & Valuation” to introduce you to the leveraged buyouts subject. Using the same precise and model driven approach, the author puts you in the shoes of a Wall Street analyst and guides you step by step in the construction of a full leveraged buyout model. Direct and to the point, this is a great addition to the library of anyone serious about modelling and investment banking.

5.0 out of 5 stars "a perfect balance of conceptual theory and practical application"

“Leveraged Buyouts: A Practical Guide to Investment Banking and Private Equity” is a perfect balance of conceptual theory and practical application. It walks you through every step from the development of a leveraged buyout (LBO) model to the final analysis, explaining the theory used and uncovering industry best practices that can be applied in any given case or scenario. Paul Pignataro provides the theoretical framework and describes the thought processes for each step of the analysis, identifying and expanding upon the factors which drive the valuation; allowing you to develop both the hard skills for modeling and the understanding to approach and intelligently discuss an LBO analysis at a higher level.
I highly recommend his book for both beginners looking to better understand the industry, as well as, industry professionals looking to improve their skills. Tremendously valuable for anyone seeking to break-in or to further develop their career in Investment Banking or Private Equity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best LBO Book

I wouldn't know much about which book for leveraged buy-out would be the best. But when I came across this book as apart of the Wiley Finance Series extending from the Financial modelling and valuation book, I had with ZERO experience in Finance. Following Pauls book i can proudly say that I have gained excellent and proficient knowledge in financial modelling. The book provides excellent information on LBOs along with the advanced practical modelling using the Heinz LBO by 3G and Berkshire Hathway which makes this book by far the best to understand simply by the results that I have achieved. Now I can build sophisticated LBO models with advanced thinking of the "how-to-approach" ! The books is simple, step-by-step, elegant and I don't think any other investment banker could have simplified it more than what Paul has done. I look forward to your other books in the series. Thank you Paul for the publication.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste time reading more books on theory... Learn the skills to get/do the job!

Great read to help you prepare for an IB or PE interview. Much better than all those interview prep guides that are out there.

It’s an easy read and the practice materials really enforce your understanding. I didn’t know the first thing about LBO’s before reading this book. The author did a great job of breaking down the concepts so that even beginners or those without a finance background and/or education can learn.

I recommend the book for anyone wanting to become an analyst or anyone who wants to brush up or refine their skills.

Good book, fairly easy to follow and simple to understand. I love how he shows the reader how to input the info. into excel.

The book was clearly written for public M&A transactions ( hence Heinz case), but is nevertheless very applicable for privately held transactions.

5.0 out of 5 stars By far the best way to start learning leveraged buyouts

I started off with Paul's first book, Financial Modeling and Valuation, and because it helped me out a lot with my modeling skills, I had to try out his LBO book. Just like Financial Modeling and Valuation, the content here is very thorough and gives the reader a step-by-step guide on how to build a model for the Berkshire Hathaway buyout of Heinz. I'll definitely refer back to this book for further practice. Loved it, will keep using it, and I recommend anyone interested in investing to read this book too.

Hi Paul,

Your text, "Leveraged Buyouts" is genius. Really appreciate the supplementary stuff in there, especially all of the accounting. Your explanation of minority interests, implied value of operating assets, and the relationship of the BS with the other two Finacial statements is golden. Also, learning to build depreciation schedules and working capital schedules has never been so clear!

Great work

Paul's book, Leveraged Buyout, is an easy to read, step-by-step guide to how to model a leveraged buyout. I had no experience with financial modeling in the past, but with the knowledge Paul shares in his book, I have the confidence, knowledge and understanding of the mechanics of modeling a leveraged buyout. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand LBO theory, LBO modeling mechanics, and some advanced modeling techniques for more complex analyses.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only for those without any background in finance/modeling
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 5, 2017

I purchased the book in hopes of furthering and fine-tuning my knowledge of LBO. The book gives you a very detailed steps in "building" a very basic model for an LBO. To be frank, more than half of the book is wasted on the very detailed steps that are very self-intuitive. Furthermore, many inefficiencies in addition to errors in the debt schedule exist (cap of credit facilities, mandatory/optional repayments, and etc.), the key aspect in an LBO model. I would only recommend this book if the reader has no background in finance and modeling, which I highly doubt to be the target audience for this book.
