I'm a regular buyer of this stuff now, since despite Fancy Feast's reputation of being "just the same as any other cat food, only more expensive" turns out to not be true. 2 of my pickiest cats, before they needed to go on a more specialized diet, would eat this stuff when they wouldn't eat other foods, and compared to the brand I was feeding them before, I has more protein and less fat per serving, so in a number of ways it IS actually better than a lot of the more common wet cat foods you'll find.
I can definitely see why the price per can, combined with the small size of the can, would put some people off, though, since in terms of quantity, you're getting a lot less for your money. For my part, the lower fat and the way it was easier to add water to (my male cats get extra water in their wet food to help prevent UTIs) made it worth the cost.
My female cats love every flavour, though the male cats will walk away from the salmon flavour. They love the two others (cod, sole, & shrimp, and ocean whitefish and tuna), so while it would be nice to have the option or purchasing those 2 in a variety box that didn't come with salmon, it's not like I can't do anything with the flavour that 3 of the cats dislike. But that's the risk anyone runs with a variety pack.
(And no, I don't know why the male cats in this household dislike the salmon pate so much. Not just this brand, either; they turn their nose up at every salmon flavour pate I offer them.)
