Just finished this and immediately downloaded (and paid for so that I can keep it) Book 5. It's a little sad that not everyone makes it through, but then, that's life. These are great stories. There is tragedy, humor, lost and found and lost again. Mean people and nice people. And Dog is perfect. I also like the military aspect. Just read the stories, you will not be disappointed. And if you are, well then, too bad so sad.

Great writer. Great story. I care about the characters, they are believable and I can see the action as it happens. I highly recommend this series and the author.

So, that was my review after reading this book. I have now read all of the books on my kindle, pre-ordered #8, purchased all of them in soft cover and even purchased the audio book from Audible. I am waiting for all of them to come to Audible because I love being read to. They do need a different narrator though. Am I obsessive? Just a wee bit. I have read the series 3 times so far and each time it gets better. The characters are believable and I truly care about them. John is a great person and only wants to find his wife. Rachel just wants to survive and realizes that her best chance lies with John. Dog? Well, Dog is just really cool. I cannot recommend this series enough. Yes, there is violence, some pretty graphic. But they are fighting infected people trying to eat them for God’s sake! If you cannot deal with very well described violence, or a lot of military scenes, then go elsewhere for your entertainment. I can't wait to read each book but then I’m distressed when I finish one.

You must read them in order. That is the only way you will understand the story line and the world that the characters are trying to live in. Most books end and the next picks up at that spot. Some scenes in the later books have brought tears to my eyes because I have grown to truly care about the people who inhabit this world.

I would recommend reading the John Chase story after reading at least one of the Voodoo books. This will allow you to get to know him a little in this current world and understand some of what has made him into the man that he has become. Other things will fall into place.

If you do not like “Zombies”. If you do not really care about “military” scenes, descriptions, etc. If you are not particularly fond of “apocalypse” stories please move on instead of leaving a bad review. I know that not everyone likes everything but just move on. Please, this author does not deserve it. Nor do these stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars The post-apocalyptic roller-coaster ride continues!

The Voodoo Plague series by Dirk Patton is an original, character-filled, action-packed, compelling post-apocalyptic tale. The first book in series, Voodoo Plague, starts with a businessman, John Chase, experiencing some disturbing events while in a hotel in Atlanta. He rescues a woman, Rachel, from an attack and they quickly go on the run as they realize that people have become rage-infected due to a bioterrorist attack. They decide to head to Arizona to find John’s wife, Katie, and quickly get immersed in not only survival, but also helping others survive. Book 4 continues with John, Rachel and Dog separated. John learns new information about the source of the virus; Rachel and Dog continue to fight their way to safety.
There are several unique elements that make the series stand out from the ordinary.
1. The “zombies” are not undead; they are regular people who have been infected with a bioterrorism virus. Females are fast, 28 days later rage-filled creatures, and some exhibit intelligence, while males form slow shambling Romero-type herds.
2. This is not a story about an average Joe rising to the occasion -- the central character in the series, John Chase, is a highly trained ex-military superhero. He keeps going and going, like the Energizer bunny, and is skilled to the extent that the reader has to suspend disbelief at some points. But being a superhero has its benefits, and it allows John to charge from action-packed situation to situation, which makes for a tense roller-coaster ride -- bringing us to point 3.
3. Action is non-stop. Infected! Nukes! White Supremists! Tornados! Slavers! Floods! Train Wrecks! Plane Crashes! Redneck Shit-kickers! Rescues! Bioterrorism! Serial Killers! Invading Forces! Helicopter Crashes! There is seriously no breathing space ever in this series, which means there is never a logical breaking point when you can go to sleep or leave the book for a while.
4. The characters, including those in supporting roles, are all interesting. I didn’t much like John at first, as he is bit macho in the first book, but the other characters caught my attention, especially Dog. Rachel, the rather clichéd “stripper with heart of gold” (and smarts too) is tough and resilient and likeable. Crawford, Jackson, Roach, and other characters add depth to the story. Though you don’t want to get attached to them….these are normal mortals unlike John!
The Voodoo Plague series is good fun, and I recommend that you get the entire set, call in sick to work, and tell your family that you need some personal space. Then, curl up in a dark room and enjoy the roller-coaster ride as John, Rachel, and Dog try to survive the action-packed events in Dirk Patton’s extraordinary, post-apocalyptic world.

5.0 out of 5 stars One kick ass read with one hell of an ending.

WOW ;Just another great read.

This one has Chase jumping in to the Mississippi. He's going after Rachel, Dog and the murderer Roach who fell out of the train on the bridge crossing the Mississippi.

He's unable to find Rachel or Dog and hope Roach broke his neck when he landed.

Col Crawford sends a Black Hawk to pick up Chase and the search continues for Rachel and Dog. No one gives a s**t about Roach and they all hope he's deader than dead.

Once Chase is back at base they are attacked by Russians of all things. Crawfords Black Hawks and Apache's win the day but they now now know the Russians are behind the plague and the nuclear attacks on America. They duped the Chinese into making the move.

The Russians have taken over several AF bases and other areas.

Crawford wants Chase to go to Los Alomos and pick up some 60's era backpack nukes. He knows Chase is trained on the things. He also knows Chase is the best man for the job.

Rachel has survived the fall into the Mississippi and eventually Dog finds her. She's also rescued by Crawfords men.

Roach has also survived and has found a truck. He's on his way to anywhere but where he is. He's also found a sixteen year old female who's into his brand of sex, pain and killing. They make it to Tinker AFB.

Chase and his team of Martinez, Vee and Scott make a HAHO jump onto the mesa where the buildings they need to get into are located. They also run across a Dr. Morton who's the last surving scientist in the building.

So begins one damned fine read.

This one has Chase, Rachel, Dog, Jackson, Roach, a girl named Synthia, a group of Russians who aren't interested in taking over America, Russians who want a change in their country, a supposed cure for the plague, the Russian president, a battle in the warehouse at Los Alomos, the infected, a Roach who meets Chases Katie and one damned action filled kick ass read.

Five Stars and then some.

Bummer a warrior was lost, but the fight continues. Again, good story built up on all characters and the story itself is very believable because of all the man-made virus’s that different country’s experiment.
Anyhow, the fight for the USA continues.

The four stars is for the series, not for this book, which I can't read. I purchased the Kindle edition of this book. Amazon's page says it is available for the Kindle. Normally ebooks show up on my Kindle instantly, but with this book, no luck. So I go to my cloud and try to manually download it from the cloud to my Kindle, and I get an error message saying "The item is not compatible with this device." So I spoke with Amazon customer support and they agreed that, even though the page says that this book is for the Kindle, and that I have the correct Kindle, and that my Kindle software is updated, they cannot send it to my Kindle. Amazon says there's nothing wrong with my Kindle or account; the problem is with the book. I realize that review guidelines say that I shouldn't describe my "seller experience," but since Amazon tells me there's some formatting problem with the book that makes it unavailable for Kindle, I think this qualifies as a review of the product. The best Amazon can do is refund my money and let me know by email when they've solved the problem. Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy this for their Kindle.

Once I'm successfully able to download my purchase, I'll update my review. Mr. Patton, if you're reading these reviews, here's hoping you can contact Amazon and streamline solving the problem.

WOW!!! what a great book - I bought the audiobook to go with it - so worth it.
Man, oh man, that John Chase doesn't know the meaning of the word QUIT - Fast paced story that really interesting and engaging, the story is added to with Rachel and DOG. The world is ending and infected are everywhere. But Holy Smokes!!! what a ride - there is just enough military to let the reader know that Dirk Patton was military, but not enough to put you to sleep, It makes the story interesting.
I actually prefer the audiobook version so I can listen on the go and audiobooks 1-6 are fantastic.
Basic run down of the series is John Chase goes to Atlanta on business, the next day weird stuff starts happening. He sees Rachel running from infested through the swamp and saves her. The world goes to hell, John needs to get back to Phoenix, AZ to find his wife Katie. Along the way, John and Rachel find Dog and a whole bunch of infected and a bunch of Yahoos -

This book, like the first three in the series, keeps you guessing from page to page as to what will happen next. You don't really know who will survive the next chapter and who will not. Just when things appear to be going good, something happens. You can believe that if anything can go wrong to foil a task, it will! Not only are the main characters having to battle this infectious virus that everybody seems to be catching, they have to deal with the Russians, who want to destroy America. I found it very hard to put this book down. So far, I have read the first 3 books one right after the other, along with this one. As I write this review, I am almost half-way finished with Book 5. Each and every chapter end on a high with the reader wondering what happens next. Each book is no different. You finish one book and have to read the next one to find out what happens next. I find myself staying up way past my bedtime, reading! I LOVE this series of books. If you like the Walking Dead, you will surely like this series of books!
