I enjoy hazelnut flavored coffee pods. These pods have a great, hazelnut flavor. Plus, they are a great value. However, there is one major flaw. The coffee is too weak. I would still recommend these pods, but only if you use them to make a smaller cup of coffee (about 6 ounces at the most). If you make a large cup of coffee with these pods, the coffee will be too weak and all you will taste is hazelnut flavor and no coffee flavor. Too bad because they are such a great deal.
When I was thinking of ordering this coffee, the first thing I noticed was the 4,500+ four star reviews. I love peppermint flavored coffee and thought this was the answer to my prayers. I was disappointed with the flavor bc there is no peppermint flavor at all! As it was brewing, it smelled like a chocolate but tasted a little fruity. I checked the pods to make sure they were listed as Peppermint Bark, and they were - they just didn’t taste like Peppermint Bark. They’re good but they’re not what I expected.
Good quality coffee, not great, but good. I use this for every day kind of coffee. I bought it on Sale $18 for 80 cups including shipping. So I would buy this every time for the price and good flavor alone. I prefer a Kona Blend but noticed this one had a super great value. The taste is like a good ground coffee like I grew up with. I use cream and sugar so there is a little bitterness with a bright morning coffee flavor. There is little after taste since I don't drink it black. This is a medium roast, not dark or French but lighter than either of those. I would put it with 8'oclock, maxwellhouse regular blend, or somewhere in there. I was able to use the 12 ounce setting without flavor loss so there seems to be a good amount of grounds in the Kcup. I noticed many reviews had problems with the seals on the Kcups... mine came in perfect shape, work great every time. I did notice they were puffy (like pressurized) it may be because of the altitude difference between where I live and where they are made. (This also could explain why some seals popped open in shipping on the other reviews, the issue seems to have been resolved) If the price goes back up, I would prefer going back to my regular Kona blend. Don't hesitate to try it of you are not a picky coffee drinker and just want a good cup at a value price!
if you are expecting coffee shop or 5 star restaurant flavor, you are not going to get it from any pod type coffee products. the water you use will affect the taste too. unless you have a really good filter on your faucets, if you are using tap water from the city, good luck. as much as I hate paying for water, I use spring water and distilled water. I personally have not noticed much difference between the donut shop and the kona blend. both have decent flavor. the kona blend may be a bit more acidic. reminds me of what you get if you mix maxwell house and hills brothers coffee together and brew it in an automatic drip coffee maker. the columbian is a little smoother than the donut shop and kona blend. next purchase will be the organic peruvian, haven't tried that one yet.
I’m also a coffee snob with a keurig. I’ve been buying the brand for several years, and usually keep some of this donut flavor. It’s not quite as rich as some other brands but it’s inexpensive and with a bit of cream it’s usually pretty good. This last box was received quickly, box in good shape, product well within date, tasted like sad cardboard with a butter finish. I let Amazon know and within 2 minutes, it was fixed. I would normally give this product a 4.5, it actually tasted like 0, but Amazon backed it quickly. I bought a different brand to test my “possible COVID 🤷♂️“. The latest test is to smell your coffee..... the new boxes are great, will be adding in rotation. I absolutely will purchase this product again.
Victor Allen 42 pack of Donut Shop Blend coffee was ordered 8/21/20 and received 08/23/20 with one corner of the box crushed. All "cups" arrived in good condition--with the seals intact. Expiration date is 4/09/2022, so the coffee is fresh! The taste is fine for everyday coffee--not too weak and absolutely no bitter after-taste. If you aren't a coffee connoisseur, and are not too brand-conscious you should be happy with the taste of this product and with its value. I purchase a variety of brands of single cup types of coffee, but only when I can buy them at or less than $5.00 for a 12 pack. This coffee is even less expensive, and I like it just as much as some, and almost as much as others.
I also use ground coffee. I've purchased a pack of little filter containers (they work fine) and am awaiting paper filters (after success trying a regular filter I cut to fit). I'm using these in addition to the little cups because of environmental concerns of impact of the plastic cups. One thing that I do is try to cut up the cup and add that little bit of used coffee to a container. I add egg shells to it. They both dry quickly and can be put into garden soil. Sometimes I cut up banana peel and also add that to my soil. Not hard to do, and helps the soil and consequently the plants----a little way of giving back to the environment.
However, the little cups of coffee are so convenient that they have their place also. With the lower cost and good taste of the Victor Allen Donut Shop cups ---well let's just say that I am ordering a 2nd box even while awaiting my tiny 100 paper filters, and saving my used coffee and bits of shells for my garden soil !!!
We were shopping for the best value in a favorable Breakfast Coffee. I wish we had purchased a smaller quantity to give us the chance to sample the taste before ordering the larger volume. We found that our usual selection on our coffee maker resulted in a weak cup of coffee with no appealing aroma. However, now that we are using the lesser amount of water, we are enjoying the flavor more, drinking a shorter cup but giving us a better taste.
Sometimes I find we either get an acquired taste for any brand's flavor. In this case, I have hope we can still do this with this purchase.
I figured for 22 cents per pod, this stuff would be equal in flavor to a good bootblack. After buying it and giving it a try, I have to admit , it is pretty good stuff. I have had better but, I have had one bunch that was a lot worse than this...thus 4 stars. Also, 80 loose pods in one large box is not the most convenient way to store coffee pods but, I know, "more packaging equals more consumer cost". So, I'll take this lousy 4 star coffee and drink every drop of it and then order some more, if it's still available at this price.
its july 2019 - and after 6 cups i must say that i found every cup of the Kona blend - smooth not bitter and tasty enough - although not the strongest coffee i have ever had, its a mild but higher quality taste, and least 1 step up from what I usually drip . the seal seems fine 6 cups in no fails and no grinds in cup. Not sure what those older reviews about the seals were about , but seems fixed to me. The cost at about .25 a cup is what I want to pay for coffee if buying 80 at a time.
