5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME READ!
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on September 25, 2020
This is the last book of the series and what a book and series it is. I received all 8 of the books and had them all read in 2 1/2 weeks. This character driven, emotionally charged tale will run you thrown the whole gamut of feelings. We have devastating losses, horrifying battles plus some more survivors rescued. Adrian, Michelle and Kevin have one last mission to complete as The Trinity. Will they succeed or will evil's final nasty plan cause them to fail? You'll have to read this book to find out and I highly recommend this book and series if you love the zombie/horror genre with some well placed humour.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this series of books
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on February 26, 2016
I really enjoyed this series of books, especially the first book which introduces Adrian, the narrator, and the zombie infested world he finds himself suddenly thrust into. The diary format of the books allows for a lot of detail and also the narrator's dark and not always PC sense of humour. What I liked about the lead character was the authenticity of his voice and actions. Many books of this genre have ex-cops, ex-military and very rarely are they portrayed realistically or as fully realized human beings. You often get a kind of cliche characterization instead of what the reality is. The narrator, Adrian, is a pretty unlikely hero and he knows it. He writes his journal narration as if he's talking to one of his army buddies with that dark sense of humour and off colour sensibility often developed to blow off steam in deadly situations. Adrian's also a true cat lover so right there I was on his side.

Zombie genre is horror and high concept by it's nature so despite the realistic details of the first book and early installments, gradually the seeds of something bigger are sewn. I was less in love with the super natural aspects of the story than I was with the characters and their reality but the interplay and development of that mysterious plot was well interwoven and developed by interweaving the first person narrative of the diary with third person POVs of various characters and Adrian, the main player. The series ended in epic fashion with a pretty big finale and a bit of wrap up afterward but also left the back door open for the story to continue, perhaps with other characters in the future. I'd definitely be up for reading more if that should happen.

Excellent zombie apocalypse book, good story, strong characters, could do with some typos etc being corrected but there aren't enough to spoil it. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars And so it ends...

Even knowing what was coming (having read the story online multiple times) I still got chills, tears, and that sinking feeling in my gut as I made my way through Cassie. Knowing it is the end, knowing the pain and suffering that Adrian has gone through to get to this point, I couldn't help but hurt for him. If you've read the other books and made it this far, I don't think I need to convince you to buy this one as well... only a masochist wouldn't buy the last book in an epic like this. These characters will stick with me for the rest of my life, the twist of Good vs Evil that Chris has created in regards to the ZA will forever be my favorite, and Chris will always hold a place on my bookshelf alongside a select few other favorite authors of mine. I encourage all of you to look at his other works once you've recovered from the emotional trauma AUD will cause once you've finished it. (Just be aware, these traumatic feelings and episodes of withdrawal symptoms are completely normal when finishing a book/series as amazing as AUD) Hopefully we will return to Adrian Ring's world one day in the future, but as we say goodbye (for now) at least be comforted by the fact that you can always go back to the beginning and start over once again <3 Thank you Chris for writing such an amazing story that has captivated the minds and hearts of so many readers. Tell the voices in your head to keep talking, and we will definitely keep reading what they have to say!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on tight. You won't be disappointed!

The depth of this story as a whole is overwhelming. I rarely use the term "epic" as it is one of the most overused words in our vocabulary today but this adventure is nothing short of epic.

The characters have more than depth, they are as close to real as you can get without breathing. So much so, they have become almost like family. I've laughed and cried with them through the good and bad times. I've stayed up into the wee hours with them, concerned for their safety, turning pages until I know if my favorites are going to be okay.

It is exceedingly rare that I become this vested in novel.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. How you handle that end, is as critical the rest of the story. This is a fantastic, satisfying conclusion to what is easily the best zompoc series ever written. (And I read a LOT of zompoc).

I can't possibly say enough good things. If you haven't read it, go grab the entire series and clear your calendar. If you have and are just about to start this book; hold on tight and enjoy the last go round on this roller coaster. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful story

I absolutely love the characters the author has created, and the way the story comes together. They go through so many trials and tests, and have so much heart and authenticity. They make great choices, take great risks, and make human error. I love the setting as well, the city truly comes to life through all the explorations. I read zompoc fiction quite frequently, and this is up there among the best stories I’ve read. These characters will stay with me.

<On a huge aside, the grammatical errors increase in the final few books - especially those using the Subject pronoun (I) when it should be Object pronouns (me). Definitely something worth overlooking though. (I had to point it out bc it intensified, if you ever want someone to help with this, let me know!)>

2.0 out of 5 stars Infuriatingly bad

I really enjoyed the first few books. As they progressed I grew a little uneasy. By book 4 or 5 I read a review which said that they could no longer tolerate the misogyny or homophobia and I winced in agreement but the story was kind of gripping and I continued. But the more important the Trinity became, the more obvious the flaws in plotting and writing. By this book, I was just skimming to see how he ended the damn thing. I had started out liking Adrian but by now he was TSTL, and had shown no growth or charm. If this was the savior or soul of mankind, then we are in deep, deep trouble. I did read it to the end and was really disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this series, though the first 3 were strong enough, the middle three were middling and the last two were actively bad, which lead to doubts about how good the first few had been...

5.0 out of 5 stars How can such a wonderful story make a person feel so sad?

I cannot believe that this is it. I remember when Chris was posting his entries (journal entry) every couple days. We would anxiously wait and devour the words and immediately beg for more. When we found out that the end of the story was coming, there was just an enormous feeling of loss. For me, it felt like I was losing close friends/family. Reading CASSIE, has brought back that sinking feeling. There are no words to describe just how wonderful this series is. CASSIE wraps everything up. With the help of the Trinity, Adrian is finally able to forgive himself and find peace.
Never again will I be able to hear the names, Abby, Patty, Mike, Kevin, or Adrian without immediately having Adrian's Undead Diary come to mind. Also, I'll never be able to watch any of the old 'Mayberry' episodes with Otis (town drunk) without thinking of a fat, yellow, silly cat.
Lookout Robert Kirkman, you have met your match in Chris Philbrook!

5.0 out of 5 stars The end to a great and epic saga!

As I finish the last book in this incredible series I think about how I won't have anymore Adrian to read about. That makes me sad but happy too. As usual when I finish up a great series I have that mixed sadness with elation. Chris Philbrook has given me years of enjoyment with this series and I want to thank him. Each book has been a joy and never a disappointment. Because of Adrian's Undead Diary I developed my love of zombie books. Of all the series that I have read this will always be at the top of my list and the one I will never, ever forget. If you have been reading Adrian's Undead Diary you will love this one as well. If you've never read Adrian's Undead Diary at all, then you better get started! It's a long and wonderful journey.
