The Runaway Bunny is such a poignant book to read to kids and has a heart warming message. This parody does a great job of capturing that same message with a mummy and monsters that still makes me, and my girls, smile. If you have read the bunny version, give this one a try.
My son is just under 2 and this is one of his very favourite books, along with Goodnight Goon. He wants me to read it to him every day and even after a month of this, I am still finding new, fun details in the illustrations.
My son loves “Goodnight Goon” and anything monster/Halloween related. He wanted this when he saw it so I got it for him for his 5th birthday (just before Halloween.) He enjoyed it and so did I. I didn’t know what exactly to expect, but thought the retorts between Mother Mummy and her son were familiar and funny. Fun little book.
My kids love all the fun parodies this author writes, especially Goodnight Goon and We’re Going on a Goon Hunt. My kids still like this one, but it’s not that fun to read. Illustrations were great, but there’s a lot going on.
My toddler likes this book but the distinction between mommy and mummy (the whole gimmick of the book) is pretty confusing. It's also hard to tell which character is speaking on each page. I ended up rewriting it in real time as he was totally confused. Not the best for a 3yr old.
My son loves this book!!!! He isn't very familiar with the original, but I find it far more enjoyable to read. The pictures are so vivid & detailed & the descriptions so funny. In one of image, a character from the author's other book, Good Night Goon, is visible, which inevitably makes my son laugh & ask to read that book next. I highly recommend. Very goofy & fun. I think he will only enjoy it more as he grows up & learns what more of the words mean (he's almost 2 right now).
I ordered this book for my daughter, because we are huge fans of goodnight goon. Goodnight goon is one of the sweetest, cutest books I've ever read to her. So my expectations for this book were high. All I can say is it's cute in it's own way, but not comparable to goodnight goon. Goodnight goon takes the cake!
