This seems like a quality adapter, good fit and picture seems good. It's actually not what I was looking for. I searched for USB to HDMI and this came up with the subtitle "USB for HDMI". I didn't pay attention to the connector end so clicked purchase. I will still use it, just wasn't what I expected, but that's my own fault.
It was exactly what I was looking for. So I could keep my monitor connected to an hdmi but switch adapters between my work laptop (display port) and my personal laptop (lightening). The hdmi and lightening connection still works, so I know the issue is with this cable. Disappointed I’ll have to purchase another one (from a different brand).
Seems to work fine. I initially thought I had a problem with this or cable (would only go up to 1920x1080), but it turns out it's either my Dell docking station and/or Acer monitor that's at fault..
My dock has 2x DP outputs and 1x HDMI output, and I've got 1x DP monitor and 2x HDMI monitors - so I need one of the HDMI monitors to have this adapter. Using the adapter with my BenQ monitor is fine - but whether I use it on the BenQ or Acer, the Acer is always stuck at 1920x1080. If I plug in only my DP screen + the Acer, the Acer shows 2560x1440 just fine ... so no matter what, if I connect 3, the Acer isn't displaying the right resolution..
Its a nice product, shipped quick and was packaged nicely. But... the package was open? Not sure why, but it was outside of its protective bag, though it still has its scratch protection installed? The seal was broken on the box.
All that aside, it was inexpensive, looks nice, works well and does the job. If it was a pricey or easily damaged item I would have sent it back.
There is noting physically wrong with this, so it gets 5 out of 5 for the actual product.
I bought three of these over time, and for some reason, one of them causes screen tearing at 1080p 60Hz. I've swapped them out and confirmed just one of them is problematic. Going to 50Hz helps but is not ideal. I assumed the tearing was due to another issue long ago, so I can't get a replacement anymore, but it's worth paying attention to the fact that these adapters may have some issues.
This is a fine converter cable at a very decent price. It is working fine & reliably for extended periods of time. Never had any issue with it.
Meanwhile, be aware that even though it does support 4K resolution, the conversion is limited to 60 Hz whatever the resolution.
For example, DO NOT buy it if you plan to connect a VR (virtual reality) headset on it. Although it will provide you an image, the refresh rate will be limited to 60 Hz even though many headsets do support 90+ Hz. This could increase the chances you feel motion sickness.
So I’ve purchased three of these over the years. First two I bought came in a bag. Those two still work and feel like great quality when handling. Have a 5 star review for these back then.
The latest one I ordered, May 20th 2021, came in a box. Packaging really isn’t the point but just thought I’d mention the packaging change and it wasn’t the only thing that changed unfortunately. The new adapter itself just feels crappy and light and thin. It worked though, so I thought nothing more of it…until today. It just suddenly started malfunctioning and, within 2 minutes, not working anymore. I thought it was my monitor. Tested everything from the GPU port, to the Monitor itself. Everything works except the adapter. Tried it on different monitors and systems, nothing at all. The system and the monitor register that they are connected to each other but display nothing at all. I unfortunately didn’t register purchase for the warranty so I don’t know if they’ll help me resolve this.
This seems like a great product, however, for my use case it didn't work. I needed to use it with my DP KVM and unfortunately it wasn't powerful enough. I did return it as I opted for another method (got a new monitor with DP support).
I remember buying one two years ago and still have it till this day and still works perfect no issues. And now needed another one and made sure to get the exact same one i bought 2 years ago. Love this product, not bad for the bucks. :D
Unfortunately, this wasn't compatible with my laptop (HDMI) and second monitor (DP). It could very much be that the monitor I was trying to connect to was very old, so the adapter it didn't work with it. It was disappointing, but I don't blame the product since it seems to work for others. I would like others to keep this in mind.
