Make way for a parade of trucks, boats and other things that go, each driven by a cheerful animal. The duck on the cover pilots a dump truck, a "cab crab" waves from a taxi window and a "blimp chimp" (my favourite!) steers a purple airship. Michael Rex illustrates each vehicle in bold primary colours and sets them strikingly against monochromatic backgrounds, tempting young readers to linger on each page.
My son loved this book at 18 months and continues to ask for it at almost 3 years of age. A definite must have for fans of both animals and all things with noisy engines!
My almost 2 year old loves this book so much he "reads" it aloud from memory even without the book in front of him. The catchy rhymes are perfect for early talkers to practice differentiating and pronouncing sounds. The 'things that go' theme mixed with animal drivers has made the book a real hit with my son.
This is a great book for little ones. It can be used on many levels- for the very young- just pointing at the pictures ...but there is also a really clever rhyming thing going on. There are many truck books out there with pictures and words- this book just happens to be the best of them.
Our 20-month old saw the pictures of this book and "Dunk Skunk" on the dust jacket of "You Can Do Anything Daddy" and would always point them out when we would read YCDAD. So, I purchased both Truck Duck and Dunk Skunk. He LOVES Dunk Skunk, but Truck Duck doesn't capture his attention and finds it boring, despite his affinity towards vehicles and other modes of transport.
