To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I bought this when it was branded Ravelli - but now it's amazon basics. It looks exactly the same. The quality is a 4 star. But for you pay for it... it's a 5 star. The trigger grip will loosen after some use. Just have to give the set screw a tweak at the base of the grip. Then its fine. I have been lugging mine around for 3 years. I have had WAY more weight on the tripod than it should handle - and the legs are fine. The grip can only really handle 5lbs. not 11. So i guess that deserves 1 star off.
I have a number of lightweight tripods from Manftotto and Gitzo but none of them would really do what I wanted when it comes to mounting, and firmly holding, a 1m track slider with a heavy flywheel. So for the price I thought I would take a punt on this fairly substantial tripod. It’s perfect and I will be buying a second to provide a sturdier base for the other end of the rail. I don’t plan to backpack with this tripod and will mostly use it within a few hundred metres, at the most, from my car so the weight is not relevant to me. The bag, unlike quite a few ‘free’ bags is quite substantial and well made.
The downsides are that it has a non-standard mounting plate on the pistol grip so if the plate gets lost/mislaid the head will become useless, but I will mostly use the tripod without a head or with a Manfrotto head. The hanging hook on the centre column doesn’t look like it would hold much steadying weight with sandbags. The rubber feet give the impression that they may become easily lost, I guess time will tell.
So, if you need a low-price, very heavy, tripod I would highly recommend this.
Very good value for money. I have to be honest, I want expecting much for £50, but literally the only feature missing from these tripods that would make then a 5* all round is a leg spreader. They feel decent, the trigger grip is nice and sturdy, and the secondary lock on the quick release is a nice touch. There is not £200 difference in value between this and the equivalent Slik/Manfrotto options.
I'm not a professional photographer, so when I searched for "best tripods" I was met with ones which were really expensive. I did some research, looked up tips online and went around shops to find what I was looking for. The tripod is as solid as a rock. The legs extend to nearly six foot and open out nearly flat. The pistol grip is good, takes a little getting used to but can put the camera into all sorts of angles without moving. Then theres the price, well within in budget for what my needs were. YouTube has some great reviews, you'll see this Amazon Basic (which is far from the truth) is more or less exactly the same as a model twice the price. Comes with carry bag and key to adjust everything on the tripod. Really happy I bought it.
This surely has to be the photographic bargain of the year. I have to admit, given the price I was more than a little sceptical as to the quality of this item. I needn't have been. The quality is beyond my expectations. I wanted a tall tripod so that I wouldn't have to use the centre column, and boy is this thing tall. Not only tall but very stable (the whole point of a tripod?). Other reviewers have made comments about the weight being a bit on the heavy side, but I have to say, I didn't find it to be excessive given the dimensions of this tripod. If I have to say one thing (and this is only a minor complaint) The carry case could do with being fractionally bigger. With the enormous pistol grip head that came with the tripod, it's a very tight fit. All in all a good quality item for a very reasonable price
Impressed! This is not a £ 1,2k+ Gitzo/Manfrotto, bear that in mind ... but ... nicely put together, heavy but beautifully nimble, steady and just wow wow wow ... come on, at that price!? Used with EOS 5DSR with battery grip and lenses up to macro 100mm 2.8. Thank you Amazon Basics ☺️
Really surprised at how sturdy and secure my canon 700d camera feels on this tripod. Even with a big lense on, it’s still going nowhere. Excellent value for money. Quick release legs take seconds to setup.
