2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get through it fast enough

I am in direct sales so I thought this would be a helpful read since it's specific to the industry. I read A LOT of books, particularly self-help or how-to books, and one of the most important factors is connecting with the author: feeling like she or he is writing to you while inspiring you to follow the lessons in the book. I felt like Romi tried, but she fell short. She isn't shy about being very proud of herself and her accomplishments, coming off as boastful at times. She makes it clear in the first page, and the last, that writing a book has been her lifelong dream, and it almost feels like she just wrote it to write it.
Throughout the book, she outlines how she came to earn 6 figures. Or was it 7? She threw out 6 and 7 so many times I couldn't keep track. She makes it a point in her first chapter to tell the reader that we must be coachable, meaning following the steps if we want to earn that kind of money. Otherwise, it's not going to happen. I'm glad she does this at the beginning because at least she's giving us the option to close the book from the start. But I was hopeful I might find something useful so I kept reading.
Her approach (as she says) is very simple: Share your business with every single person you know (not exaggerating), then use every single person you know as a referral source, then get them to buy your products/services. She writes out detailed scripts to every possible scenario of recruiting and helping your team recruit. The three-way phone calls, the follow-up, the push back, the hundreds of questions to ask when people say No, the guilt. It's intense.
I was honestly surprised by some of her tactics. I started to wonder if I would even be allowed to be on her team if I wasn't willing to do all that work. Even if I was just okay making a few hundred here and there. The MLM I work with doesn't pressure you or make you feel guilty about selling or recruiting. I always wondered why some people hate MLMs; now I can see why.
Halfway through the book, I had a headache from reading it. I couldn't shake the negative feeling the book was giving me. I actually hopped on Amazon to read the reviews to see if I was the only one who felt this way. There are some negative reviews, but honestly most of them were because they didn't know it was about MLM (not sure why b/c it's in the Amazon product description), and that there's too much swearing. She does throw out quite a few cuss words but I mean come on, she uses "Damn" in the title of the book.
But I kept reading. For some strange reason, I had to see how this thing played out. Maybe it gets better, I thought. It did not. I actually found myself skimming through the last couple chapters. I don't know if it's her style of writing or the layout of the book, but it really didn't flow. There were so many times I thought she could have used bullet points or boxes or something to break up the pages. I dunno. I gave the book two stars because I did highlight a couple words of wisdom.
She ends the book with a five page "Acknowledgments" section. Five pages. I think she needs to get over her damn self.

2.0 out of 5 stars Crass. Nothing new.

Firstly, I assume this is a print on demand. I could be wrong but I have seen others who received issues with the book, binding, and print. That has nothing to do with my rating.I am just stating that it was an issue. I bought this book for research. I will take part of the blame for now researching the author and what she does and whom she does it for. This is a direct- sales and MLM book. There are so many of them out there. This was is crass, bold and nothing new. It is pushy and sometimes reads as if she is telling you to be rude to future "partners" if you''re a woman in MLM business there are many better-informed books for you to read. Obviously, Ms. Neustadt has a huge following and is well known with Rodan + Fields. I am sure many of the women in this company loved her book and are awed by her success. As a person who has been in MLM (not R+F and very long ago), her book reads like a pushy MLM-er who drives you crazy. You know those people, the ones that no matter where you are they want to sell sell sell and jump into your friend pile when you're not interested? That is how she is teaching people in this book. She is a success, that is great. Being crass, pushy and labeling people that are really not that beneficial to your business in her top three is bad advice, again, my opinion. I think if you are part of R+F this may be the book for you. I know nothing about the company and have no desire. I know people in MLM and have read some great books from the DSA but this is not one of them. Swearing and being pushy may have made her a millionaire but it doesn't mean it will make you one. In business, all business, I prefer class and manners.

2.0 out of 5 stars For Mary Kay/Herbalife type of businesses only

Ok, I have to admit, I didn't read the entire book! I am trying to build a small business of my own and need all the help I can get, especially regarding sales/attitude, so I purchased this book. It is written well, in no-nonsense kind of style that I liked. The problem (for me at least), was that this book provides the advise/strategies for a very specific kind of business. Think Mary Kay (I have a strong feeling that the author is, in fact, a Mary Kay consultant, but I could be wrong!), Herbalife or any other type of businesses, where you make money not just by selling stuff, but (mostly) by recruiting others to sell. Ones I realized that, I stopped reading, because even though you can always pick some bits and pieces of advise, the overall book just wasn't that useful for me. So, if you are interested in that type of business, by all means, buy the book. If, however, you have any other kind of business, you may be disappointed. The two stars rating is because the title was a bit misleading.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blunt restatement of what all MLM people say but might not be right for everyone.

I wish I could say I made it thru the whole book before writing this review but the fact is by chapter 4 I been getting pissed every time I read any of the book. The fact of the matter is that is the same tired information on MLM and if you are looking for information on building a network marking business this may work for you. For me it does not so far or look like it will address the items I need to work on when it comes down to working this time of business. I hate to give one star and it has to be exceptional to get 5 this one might help someone just it appears not me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not written for an independent female entrepreneur!

I wish it would have stated very clearly that this book is about a certain niche of marketing/business. To me it seemed that it would help/inspire regarding building my own business - being an independent entrepreneur. I felt like I was at an event of something like Herbalife (without naming the actual company) to be brainwashed into becoming a sheep of a scheme (not saying Herbalife is one, I just used the business model as an example). Returned it. Bummer. I give it two stars just because I have respect for anyone who is able to write and publish a book, but it should be marketed different. Please, don't recruit me.

2.0 out of 5 stars All about MLM procedures

I read a lot of personal and business development books. I was excited about this book but I had to stop about mid-way thru. The book is essentially about multi-level marketing businesses such as R&F, LLR etc. I thought I could gain something from the book but I didn't. But, I did notice that a lot of friends who sell these products follow the procedures in this book. Basically, contact everyone you know and talk about how your business can help them. If you are in a MLM business, this will help you. If not, pass on this.

its alright. She has probably given good advise , but too often it's same thing you see in other salees books. Title suggested that book would be about "Damn Self" . But it tries to touching so many topics that it ends up doing justice with none.
