There's not much to really say about a bash guard, but this one installs relatively easily. Well, if you run a single chain ring. If you have multiple front chain rings, you might have to actually remove everything so you can screw the bash guard bracket in.
This kit comes with necessary screws and washers, and an extra bash guard. It's both light and sturdy and should serve anyone quite well. You just need to check that you have ISCG tabs near the bottom bracket first.
The bash guard has instructions and parts to be installed alone, or with a separately sold FUNN chain guide. The instructions are just slightly unclear on what screws you use for either installation, so here's my overall summary, in case you're taking more than a minute to figure it out:
- If you are installing this bash guard alone, use the thinner 1.5mm washer/spacer for the forward mount point. You will most likely use the pair of shorter screws.
- If you are installing this bash guard in conjunction with a FUNN chain guide, then use the thicker 2mm washer/spacer on the rear mount point. You would most likely be using the longer screws this time.
When choosing between the 26T-32T and 34T-36T options, I opted for the larger 34-36T bash guard despite having a 32-tooth chain ring. My reasoning is that I can go with a bigger front chain ring in the future without rendering the bash guard obsolete. Note that by oversizing your bash guard, you lose a tiny bit of clearance; we're talking maybe 1-2cm or so, though, which is fine for me.
Lastly I was able to install this without removing my crank, chain ring, etc. I just fed my allen wrench through the cutouts (photos will show very accessible screws). If you have multiple chain rings on the front, you might not be able to do this, however.
