Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on April 2, 2023
Installed camera in Sept 2022 and it worked well until a couple weeks ago. Checked wiring and stereo and it was all good. I connected an old camera I had in garage and now everything works again.

Hoping seller will reach out to discuss…..

UPDATE- Seller has reached out and promised to send replacement. Seller quickly delivered a replacement. Impressed with service

2.0 out of 5 starsCaméra non fonctionelle après un seul lavage
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on August 24, 2022

The picture quality is reasonable for the price , unfortunately it has a very fisheye lens look so the edges of the picture seem distorted, The night vision is adequate , The power wires were of a low-quality so I made my own with better quality wire

4.0 out of 5 stars eRapta ERT01 vs. ERT11 vs. Boyo: Which license plate camera is best?
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 9, 2023
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
Please stay with me as we delve into the details. I specialize in tech reviews. In general, these license plate cameras can be a great buy, yet all brands in this price range face reliability challenges. This means great customer service and ease of replacement are essentials.

WHICH eRAPTA? ERT11 VS. ERT01:
First, be sure you have received the latest design with the all metal bracket. If yes, both are rated at IP69 to keep the water out! Both are considered high res at 1280 x 720 pixels. However, the fact they use standard RCA connectors makes this claim one not to rely on. In real world use, the eRapta’s typically yield a very impressive and sharp image, with quite decent color fidelity, too. Both are also related down to .1 LUX. A lower number is better—meaning they resolve low light well.

Of these two, I suggest spending just a little more for the ERT11 without lights. Cameras like these rely on your tail lights plus their LUX rating. Ask yourself, how many built in car camera have mini LED lights surrounding them? Answer: None. No mini LEDs means one less thing to go wrong and a few users have complained about the ERT01 lights getting stuck in the on position. Subtle is best so after auditioning both, I went with the ERT11.

WHAT ABOUT BOYO?
The Boyo’s advantage lies in its superior bracket. Many factory cameras such as those on our Audi’s and Honda’s rely on a 45 degree angle. Boyo makes it easy to swivel the camera on the bracket to get the angle right. These allows for more accurate guidelines placement, too. On the downside, its resolution is 600TVL which actually means 720 x 480. Is this a disadvantage vs. eRapta? Yes and no. If you have purchased a high-end digital media receiver with a true high res screen, go with eRapta for sure. However, most screens like my Pioneer resolve about 800 x 400. They do not upsample images. Thus, when comparing eRapta to Boyo, resolution is not a strong determinant of image quality for most users.

Most importantly, the Boyo is not sealed as well as the latest eRapta design. This means it is much more likely to get water inside. Thus, after evaluating both, despite the challenges with eRapta’s less versatile bracket, it’s the clear choice for me.

WHAT ABOUT eRAPTA’S 149 DEGREE ANGLE VS. 170 FOR BOYA?
Speaking from the perspective of a professional photographer, I would much rather have a camera slightly less wide at 149 degrees. The distortion is less and the view is still very wide. The wider the angle, the more far away that people behind you will appear in a parking lot. I can see a small child better with as a slightly tighter field of view.

HOW TO ADJUST THAT DARN FRUSTRATING eRAPTA BRACKET?
Although I am a huge fan of the ERT11, the only way to change the angle is by bending the bracket. Thirty-five degrees is the limit. Why is this an issue? If you don’t cut the green wire and decide to use the built in guidelines, for many cars this will leave the lines floating in space. Using two pairs of pliers, including one needle nose, I was able to bend the bracket out to get the angle much closer to 45 degrees. I also placed a small triangular shaped binder clip behind the top of the license plate to make the top just out a bit farther. You’ll see in my photos that the Honda CRV built in 45-degree angle now closely matches how I customized the eRapta. With the license plate screwed in tightly, these subtle angle changes do not show—the camera does not appear jut out more than before the bracket was bent.

In any case, I strongly suggest that the good folks at eRapta go back to an adjustable bracket.

WHAT ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE?
As others have noted, utterly superb at eRAPTA. Commendable! I’ve had great communications with rapid replies. Although I have not tried to contact Boyo’s California office, I have read that others have been frustrated trying to reach them.

WHAT IF THE CAMERA STOPS WORKING?
Happily, eRAPTA gives a lifetime warranty but that does not mean it won’t be a pain replacing the camera. To ease the pain, I suggest having two on hand when you do the install. If one is bad, the other will likely be fine.

Regarding wiring, most cameras of this type now have standard four pin connectors near the back of the camera. Try to do your install with an easy way to reach inside to grab the connector and pull it out should you need to change out the camera. Fortunately, it is highly unlikely you will need to redo the wiring all the way to the head unit.

CONCLUSION:
Hope this too long review has been of some small help. My impression is that eRatpa is always trying to improve its cameras and that’s admirable. Time for a more flexible bracket design but otherwise highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice augment to older vehicles
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 19, 2023
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
A nice product that works well in older vehicles without reverse cameras. Design is elegant and well thought out. Bracket hides nicely behind license plate looks clean and almost factory.

I purchased this reverse camera for my daughter's 2010 Honda Civic. She already had an aftermarket head end unit in the vehicle (a Dual XDCPA10BT) with a screen so I did not need a screen. The camera itself came nicely boxed with most of what was needed for the install except tools etc. The install took me about 3 hours but I am fastidious and wanted to done correctly. The cable from the camera to the head end unit was plenty long enough for our small sedan. I did need to adjust the camera downwards by bending the bracket a little then reinstalling over the license plate. Picture quality is adequate although not high definition by any means. I soldered all connections and was careful with my wire routing. I did need to drill a hole in the trunk lid to route the cable from the camera through to the inside of the boot but sealed the hole with silicon once the cable was routed properly.

If you install this camera like I did you will need: Pliers, wire stripper, soldering iron flux and solder, heat shrink tubing, electrical tape and or some small zip ties of various lengths, plastic trim (pry) tools and a working knowledge of how to get to the back of your front end unit (Stereo) as well as procedure for removing trim panels from the front of the car all the way to the trunk or tail gate (in order to rout the cable). Not a difficult job just takes time. Consult youtube for what others have done.
I would recommend this camera to others. 4 stars because it is good, I seldom give 5 star ratings, has to be pretty much perfect to get 5 from me.

Full disclosure: Just installed today so have no idea on longevity or true function (if it helps my daughter back up more easily).

Opinion/suggestion. The "night vision" of the camera is enhanced by the LEDs around the camera but largely dependent on the vehicle's reverse lights. I have owned many many cars in my life and without exception, all have had anemic reverse lights! I would recommend upgrading your reverse lights to brighter ones if possible. Check output/lumens/candle power compared to factory bulbs for your vehicle and remember LEDs are not always the solution. Osram, Sylvania and Phillips all make very bright halogen bulbs that will serve you well.

Good luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars disappointed after they change the design
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 26, 2023

I bought this camera 5 years ago. It is still working great. So I decided to buy another one for my other car. However, they change the plug design and the camera adjusting ranges. It used to be 1 yellow RCA plug and 1 black power plug. The wiring in my other car is like that. But it is changed to 1 RCA and black/red wires for power. I have to find a plug to solder on. The camera's up/down angle is also very limited. It was a pair of swivel screws. Now it is changed to a flexible metal plate. The camera is not able to adjust to see the edge of the bumper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good camera, bad instructions, only suitable for backup (and not rear-view)
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 17, 2023
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
This camera seems to have a clear picture and gets the job done. I can't yet speak for the longevity of the camera, but I am diligent about updating my reviews if something fails prematurely.

A couple notes:
The instructions are very poor. In fact, neither the instructions, nor the camera itself, give any indication of the proper orientation (IE you cannot determine which side of the camera is supposed to be the top). Thus I had to connect the camera up to the radio and rig it to function to see which way it mounts. This is CRITICAL because the camera overlays parking guides, and those most be on the ground of course.

The wire on the back comes out TOWARDS THE TOP of the camera. It would have been helpful to put an arrow or "UP" label on the camera, or show a diagram in the instructions, but they did not.

Next issue with the instructions is it assumes you need to wire into your reverse / backup lights at the back of the vehicle. This is totally vehicle and radio specific, yet a person not familiar with these kinds of installations may think this is the way this camera must be wired. In my application, a VW Jetta, the wiring harness and the radio both provided power for backup camera directly. Thus I ran power from the radio, through the camera power wire back to the camera. So you do not, and should not in some cases, need to wire the radio the way the instructions show. That is merely one way of doing in if your harness does not provide reverse directly, or you do not prefer to pull that power off the wiring under the dash. The instructions should indicate this is just one method of wiring for some vehicles and radios, instead of making it look like that is the only way this can be wired up.

Finally, the white LED lights on the radio (I assumed they were infrared, but this is NOT an IR / night-vision camera, and those are NOT infrared LEDs) always come on when the camera receives power. If you only want to use this as backup camera that's fine, as it only comes on when you're backing up. However if you want this as a rear-view camera (IE to use it while you're driving down the road to see behind you) then the LEDs will be on continuously, which may be illegal and at the very least looks dumb and will probably cause them to dim over time from being on constantly.

So 4 of 5 stars for poor instructions (not indicating which way the camera needs to be installed), and for white LED lights that cannot be disabled.

Picture was pretty good was impressed for a $20 camera has the parking lines on too which isn't shown in the description. only complaint i have is its big and really stands out on the license plate. would have been good to make the side mounts clear plastic i think would have made it less eye catching other than that it is a great set up. clear instructions and all the cables you need.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fixed angle
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 25, 2023
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
The newer model isn't adjustable on the angle. You can bend the metal down, but if you have a license plate holder, you won't have any wiggle room, had to remove mine to bend it's angle down. Other than that it was pretty straightforward and the quality is decent. Works on my Kenwood DDX374BT.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it’s supposed to
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 28, 2023

Very easy to install. Guidelines sit a little high and I had to adjust to bracket to lower them and they’re still a little high. Night time functioning is pretty much nonexistent, even with the led lights installed on the camera. All of my nighttime images are pixelated and not visible. Otherwise it’s a decent unit. I do like that it’s wide angle and it was pretty cheap so get what you pay for…it’s definitely better than the last aftermarket backup cam I had installed and it certainly beats nothing.
