Distinct and flavourful

I really live this seasoning. It is unique in flavour, but is very delightful. The quality seems to be very good. I've pre-seasoned several bags of chicken, since they give you quite a lot for an extremely reasonable price. I would definitely recommend this seasoning and I'm going to try more products.

Bad surprise!

The best surprise is no surprise. I have used Indian spice mixes for over 20 years and this is the first one that is not only disappointing, it is plain bad. The cumin is overpowering and the after taste is bitter. This is nothing compared to the most humble of Masala paid 1/4 of the price for the same amount. Buy at your own risk.

I ordered this garam masala because I recently got into making curry at home, and needed a large amount of a spice mixture to keep that going. On the whole, I think this is a good product, so I didn't want to dock it too many stars, but it isn't flavored like any other garam masala I have had. This stuff is VERY cinnamon forward. I don't have a problem with cinnamon flavor in my curry, but it dominates this mixture, and the amount of it is a something my palette tends to associate with sweet food. So the curry made with it seems a bit off to me. I understand this is a personal preference, so I'm not being too hard on the rating, but I wanted to let others know in case it might affect their decision.

Bottom line? Only buy this if you love the flavor of cinnamon, and more traditional flavors in the background.

If you're used to a particular blend of garam masala, this might be a bit different for you. I've use many over the years, and each is, of course, a little different. This blend is aromatic and warm, but the cinnamon is too much for my personal taste. Not that it's not good, but in using it for my usual dishes, everyone noticed the difference and asked if I added cinnamon. So if your dishes lend themselves to sweeter flavors that cinnamon complements well (because your dish will definitely taste like cinnamon), this will be great for you (it really is a delicious mix). If not, you may have trouble using this giant container full of it.

I don't know that this will be the best informed review. I had never used this spice mix (Garam Masala) before, but kept running into recipes calling for it. The smell is wonderful - very Indian restaurant. The flavor is quite mild, however. I suspect I should have added it closer to the end of the cooking, despite what the recipe said.

Best I can tell, this brand is a good one: fresh, aromatic and flavorful. I think my negative comment (mild flavor) is based on my inexperience with cooking with the spice.
