5.0 out of 5 starsThe book I wanted to read earlier
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on July 11, 2021
Some people say “the clean architecture is not correct”, “don’t follow the practice” but really, the book did not say that you have to follow everything. Anyhow, I’ve been struggling with how to make my code testable. I tried multiple approaches and ended up reading this book. Tweaking testing tools is not the solution, making a smart mock module is not a solution. Designing software properly, is the solution. I wish I had software architecture mindset earlier.

I lead a bookclub with this book. The participants are developers from different companies. So many discussions around each chapter, can’t remember how many times I forgot time as a host. I’m really satisfied with the bookclub.

I don't know if it was me or the book but I felt like there weren't enough examples and too much theory

4.0 out of 5 stars Software architecture for efficient change management.

I picked up this book to educate myself about software architecture before undertaking of a significant project. As an electrical engineer with off and on encounters with moderately significant software projects I have experience with programming small and medium sized applications in many different languages, from FORTRAN, to C++, as well as some dabbling in Java, Swift, Ruby, and Python. Robert Martin's perspective on architecture and "clean" architecture is built from a lifetime of experience in software development, its analysis, the extraction of key ideas, patterns, and their impact on development, deployment, maintenance, and change. I am delighted to have picked up this book. While I do not have domain expertise in the subject, I felt that many of the ideas are original. In terms of organization the book is composed of 34 short chapters organized into 6 sections, which I also appreciated very much; the chapters are just the appropriate length to get the ideas across.

On the other hand I did feel though that the second half of the book was not as enlightening as the first; and that between development, deployment, maintenance, and change, the emphasis of the "clean architecture" presentation was seemingly on optimizing for change.

Excellent ouvrage qui expose l’évolution de l’architecture logiciel depuis le début de l’histoire du développement logiciel. Les explications sont claire et expose bien les nuances entre les différentes architecture selon leur force et faiblesse

Good content with terrible physical quality. The glue is collapsed as I open the book reading it. Normally. It will likely completely break into two part soon. Terrible quality. But the content of this book is pretty constructive.
