5.0 out of 5 starsSally Thorne is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to writing romance!

99 Percent Mine is Sally Thorne's sophomore novel and it does not disappoint! It's a very strong follow up to her incredible debut The Hating Game, one of my all-time fave romances, and it shows that Sally Thorne is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to writing romance.

99 Percent Mine leaves the enemies-to-lovers trope safely ensconced in The Hating Game and explores the friends-to-lovers trope with Darcy Barrett and Tom Valeska. What makes this use of friends-to-lovers so interesting is that Darcy's always viewed Tom as only 1 percent her friend and 99 percent her twin brother Jamie's friend. So Sally Thorne, the fabulous writer that she is, has also gifted us with my sibling's best friend/best friend's sibling trope inside this friends-to-lovers romance. SPOILER: it's also a bit of a second chance romance since Tom told Darcy he loved her back when they were 18 and she wasn't ready for it then.

I personally love ALL of those tropes so I felt Sally Thorne really spoiled readers (namely this reader) with 99 Percent Mine. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I obviously did because work, sleep, eating, etc. required my attention BUT this book is one that deserves to be read in one sitting. It's deliciously entertaining, full of heart and provides a beautiful look at two insecure people who never felt like they were worthy of the people in their lives.

Sally Thorne is an auto-buy author for me and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

How can this book be written by the same author as The Hating Game? The latter was witty, clever, flirtatious with likeable and multi layered characters. This book was none of those things. The main character Darcy is perhaps one of the worst main characters in a book I’ve ever read and that says a lot considering I go through two books a month. She is unlikeable, highly predictable and frankly, crass to the point of being annoying.

My borderline OCD combined with frugalness led me to read the book in it’s entirety. I wish I could get those five hours back.

Save your money and take a pass on this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, quirky, fell flat

I adored The Hating Game and was so excited to read 99 Percent Mine.
While the writing style remains excellent, the storyline and characters fell very flat in the author's second novel. I found the characters (other than Tom) to be irritating and not terribly well established; you felt like you didn't really know them, their backstories were either weak or absent, and there were a few plot points that were never explained and seemed to be random additions to add drama, rather than substance. Additionally, several plot points were unbelievable based on what we knew about the characters; perhaps if their stories had been better established, it would have made more sense. Consequently, while cute, the story felt disjointed and deflated by the end (the ending itself felt forced). Disappointing overall, but because THG remains a forever favourite, I will continue to read whatever the author releases!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t waste your money on this book

I’m giving up. I’m at 26% on my kindle and I can’t read anymore. This might be the worst book I’ve ever read, and I’ve read some pretty bad ones. There is nothing likeable about the main character. She’s absolutely awful and not even in a “oh, you can tell she’s good somewhere deep down”. No. She probably steals from people and smells. And her relationship with the guy doesn’t make any sense either, so I quit. Save your money and RUN AWAY.

This was a terrible book... check out 'The Hating Game' from the same author for a better story and skip this one!
