This is my first Deana Farrady book and I really enjoyed the storyline. I thought Asher was a gorgeous sexy man and Charis was a naive nerdy girl who was so intelligent yet clueless and inexperienced with men - and together they just worked. Good read.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
I love reading different genres of romance stories. Friends to lovers is one of them. When I read the blurb of ‘Unfriended’ I instantly got curious and I wanted to read it not knowing what to expect.
The story is mostly told from Asher (the guy) POV, something that I didn’t expect but that was a nice change. We did get Charis’ POV now and then and I was very happy with that because as a reader you sometimes really want to know what the other person is thinking and feeling. The writer really knew when to give us Charis POV and when not.
Charis Sloane was Asher Norrell first crush when he was very young and it was a huge crush but the fact that she was 4 years older than him and his older sister’s best friend AND his babysitter were all things that worked in his disadvantage. Luckily, Charis let him down gently and he grew up and moved on. For a little while he was a real playboy but for the last three years he has been in a steady relationship with Aura. Now, Charis is his best friend (something that Aura isn’t really happy about) but with Charis he can let out his ‘nerdy’ side something that isn’t possibly with Aura. But lately his relationship with Aura isn’t making him happy anymore. Yes, the sex is still fantastic but is that reason enough to stay together? Asher isn’t so sure anymore. So after another big argument he decides to end their relationship and afterwards he seeks comfort by his best friend Charis but Charis is acting very strange on the news. At the end of the night Asher discovers why, Charis is engaged to someone else. Someone he knows really well! Asher can’t believe that Charis would do that! So from that moment on Asher is determined to change Charis mind about the marriage. He doesn’t only do it because he thinks that her reasons are wrong for entering this marriage but also because he realized that he wants Charis for his own. Her reasons for rejecting him may still be the same (she’s older and his sister’s best friend) but Asher doesn’t care about those reasons anymore. Because he knows deep down in his heart that they are meant to be together. He only has to convince Charis of this and he has to do it before she says ‘I do’ to the wrong man. Can Asher change Charis mind on time?
I’m going to be totally honest here and tell you that after reading the first pages of this story I was having a little bit of doubts about this book. I found Asher an arrogant, cocky, sex obsessed guy but I decided to read on and I’m so very glad that I did BECAUSE SUDDENLY THE MAGIC HAPPENED! That moment where you’re pulled into the story and you don’t want to leave it (something that my nephew can confirm!!). Slowly I got so see the other side of Asher, the real guy underneath it all. A guy that felt for a nerdy, older girl when he was very young and for whom he has always held a soft spot in his heart. Asher was smart, loyal, stubborn and I totally felt for him. Charis was also a character that I really liked, she really was a total geek, a little naïve and she really wasn’t social but she was a very loyal and good friend.
One of the other thing that I really appreciated was the fact that we discovered Asher and Charis friendship through ‘past conversations’. In each chapter we slowly discovered the friendship between them. That gave the story more depth. The sex scenes were hot. I will never look at a changing room the same way! I was a little bit worried when I read in the blurb that Asher already had a girlfriend but the writer solved that ‘problem’ very neatly.
I really loved this story, it had everything that I wanted and I’m really hoping that there will be more books in this series.
First, To be completely honest with you, I saw this book while scrolling through FaceBook, after I had just made a decision to read a book by an entirely new (to me) and unheard of (to me) author...The book cover caught my attention, and when I pulłed it up on Amazon, the title was so different (and long), I was one-clicking it, before I knew it....and although I never pick my books to read using that criteria, I was on a “risk and reward” path...and I am so happy to say....I should do this more often...❤️🌼🔥 This is probably the best “best friends to lovers” book I’ve read (at least, it’s the best I can remember reading)..in...well...maybe, ever.....❤️🌼🔥 I’m not sure how to review this book, because there are so many “moving parts,” and, as I have been told, reviews are relevant, because everyone is different, but I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. And I hope the “Book 1” in the title means this author will write another book in this vein and is not just a part of the tone of this book....because it has lots of humor in it...I was never bored....❤️🌼🔥 The author is is either extremely intelligent, and/or she did her science and philosophy research unbelievably well, and, believe it or not, these references and sections of the book, made the book fun, “educational” and totally believable...❤️🌼🔥 I loved the story, I loved the intelligence and likability of the characters, and I loved the way the book ended....I loved this book from the first page of chapter 1 to the last page of the epilogue... and, now, I just have to determine if all of Deana Farrady’s books are written like this, or if this is just a different direction she has taken....❤️🌼🔥 This book is different from any book I’ve read, in the way that it gives us previous discussions of the two best friends who, obviously have loved each other since “having a crush” age, (and they aren’t oblivious to this fact) but took forever to cross that line for several reasons....I hope all of this author’s books are as good one, because I absolutely plan on reading some of her others...❤️🌼🔥 I know I am different....This book is different....The characters are different...The way it is written is different...and...dare I say....Deana Farrady is different....And, UNFRIENDED, different can be perfect.❤️🌼🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥Did I mention it was hot!!!!! Well, it is....🔥🔥🔥🔥
First of all, I hate naked man chest on covers. I hate alpha males. As an editor, autor, and blogger, I have to read and edit them, and I despise them all. This ad popped up on one of my own books and I read the description and downloaded IMMEDIATELY.
OH. MY. GOD. I can't believe how much I loved this book. I stayed up all night reading it, I couldn't put it down. The characters are so realistic, especially in their dialogue, and I adore dialogue. Ash is PERFECT as a good alpha who doesn't cheat or abuse women, which I NEVER see. I LOVED this character!! Charis is ... just ... wow .... I'm a college professor and her character is just so spot on. I actually cried during several parts because I have never identified with a character on such a deep, personal level, and I saw so much of myself in her. I can't believe how much detail went into this character. Her nerdiness was so hot and accurate.
Seriously, where do I find an Ash? Cuz I need one, like stat. Thank you for a delightful read that had me turning pages and considering if this author had access to my brain. Did you write my life story?!
I've never read this author but when I read the sample I had to purchase the book. Asher is hysterical and Charis is such a geek . The story of friends to lovers is one of my favorites storylines. Asher had got it all, looks , brains, a beautiful girlfriend and a bestie that he's had a secret crush on for so long. The story was so funny I couldn't get enough. The story was told mostly in his POV and I loved the thoughts that ran through his head. Charis is the geeky tomboy, slightly older bestie who has had a crush on Asher for a long time and has watched his long relationship with his beautiful girlfriend for years. She has settled on being his bestie because there is no way that he would ever be interested in her since she was older and solo not his type. Their story was fast paced story and hysterical, I just couldn't put the book down. This is the first I've read from this author and Ms. Farrady nailed this story and I can't wait to read more, especially about Karl.
I don't know you, Deana Farrady, but I'm about to ready every book you've ever written and ever will write. These characters were completely thought out, incredibly likable. They could be a little repetitive but the writing was so well done that they actually felt human and not like a formula for writing a romance novel. And the plot was not overly complicated. There wasnt some ridiculous villain to be bested in between the romance. It was just slice of life, fun, witty, and incredibly sexy.
