This book contains well-defined characters that will appeal to the middle-grade reader. So many familiar struggles. There are bullying, school and family relationship struggles, trust, and acceptance issues.

This book is a quick read, under one hundred pages, and a good choice for reluctant readers. I would recommend it for the eight through twelve age group.

I loved the book- and I loved the way they showed growth in the protagonist. No spoilers, but the author showed that even the worst-seeming people have weaknesses, and that even if they seem bad, they always have a good side. If you think about it, the book had some pretty obvious themes- good ones too. Highly recommended. I read it in about 30 minutes, though I'm a quick reader, so for others (with interruptions) it might take 45-60 minutes.

The new kid is nothing he suspected. He is also nothing we are used to either. He is no normal kid. He has some great character traits. The bully is not a normal bully. Alex and his brother Dylan are buds. Eek!! Did I tell you to much? I must stop talking now. I know you will enjoy reading or listening this book, The New Kid.

This is a story about a bully and how the bully was handled. It’s a great book for preteens to read. Lots of things happen during sixth grade that Alex is faced with. The book deals with how he handles them. This book opens up lots of discussions about kids and how they handle the things they go through during the middle school years, and not all of them are about bullying. There are some grammar errors throughout the book, but nothing that affects the story line.
